oDD: oh i dunno... looks quite good to me. i don't know if it fits how i picture a WW2 flakgun, but that's kinda irrelevant, isn't it? :)

anyways. here's mine
edit : hmm.. i just noticed the "mobile" aspect of the topic. i guess i overlooked that... ooops :) oh well. i'll s-p-e-l my way through the topic tomorrow.

hey!

Argh had one hell of a problem with this one, arn't very good with perspectiv i found out :)
it should have looked more like a German Big Bertha kinde of cannon but it ended up with a more Arcane/warhammer Orc thing. .. ...

@ODD, very nice! really like the colors!

Ok, guys. no makin' fun. :hmm:
this didn't exactly come out great, but i learned from it. the only ref i had was a side view and i decided to attempt this view without complete reference. which is hard for me. i know it's kinda screwy but i'm glad i did it.

Great work everyone.

Olsen - loose, suggestive and dynamic. Man, this piece is riddled with energy! awesome.

My contribution... been a while since I've done anything all digital and in a 'hurry'. Probably 45 minutes or so. No design on my part involved, but wanted to get some painting in as I could tonight. Will get back to speed in my own designs, and hopefully ride along with the DSG for a while.

Danielh68-> Thanks. :)

All the rest of you: Nice work, i wouldnt wanna be on the wrong side of any of those.

vfxart: nice

Shambacca: Cool

Wheels: Too bad the perspective is a little off, i think you have nice and clean linework.

Plaf: Nice and clean, i like the first one best.

Beatnik: It has potential to be a really moody pic (it is already moody, but it could be moodier..).I think that itīs a littlebit too dark, some stronger highlights on the vehicle to describe itīs shape better would be good. The soldiers in the background are cool and adds a lot to the pic, but i think that it would be better if the cannon didnt cover the pointmans head, it blocks the composition for me.

Cheers all!

I am so digging on the DSG! There's something about being handed an assignment that seems to absolve one of the burden the internal critic.

Anyhoo, here's my Kow Yokoyama-influenced mech-style mobile flak cannon... so what if the exhaust would choke the driver and if he might catch a face-full of super-heated casings?

--> IMAGE REMOVED <--

devilbunny and sog_1 I am in awe of you're old-school perspective chops!

EDIT: aw jeez I didn't read the part about it being a WWII-style flak cannon... duh.

OLSEN, I love the mood you've got going on in your painting.

@OLSEN yeah you are more then right about the perspectiv, got to practice much more on that, think i will start with getting some ruleres, might make things a bit easyer ;)
btw: really like the lighting on your picture, very dynamic, grat work!

Bob Loblaw-> Thanks. Nice desertwalker btw, theres nothing quite as beutiful as a quad flak gun in action.

Wheels-> Thanks. I should do some perspective training myself, itīs probably the most boring part of art, but itīs too usefull to ignore. Im more of the "slab paint on untill it looks ok" type, i need to find a good book on pespective or get my butt onto the streets for some lifedrawing.

Olsen : cheers mate. I like the first one better as well :) not very mobile though. The mood in your sketch is supercool as well. very aggressive.

sog1 : nice, clean rendering.

Olsen I really appreciate your advice and I will definately try to put it to good use in future images. It is painfully obvious most of the time that I need to keep practicing but I have been enjoying the trip. I know it's going to take a while but I plan on learning as much as possible from all of the incredible talent here. Plus it's fun as hell to sit and try to figure out what to do next. Hopefully they will get better as time goes on.

http://aaronsart.5u.com/images/flaktank_copy.jpg Here is my attempt.

Story: During the war, Rommel, after succoming to heavy attack from allied bombing issued an experimental flak cannon to be developed that could be highly mobile and be deployed rapidly to different areas. It was the first to have its own form of radar and had an extremely high rate of fire. Its ammunition was an experimental, highly explosive flak round originaly designed for anti personel use but adopted by the development teams when its use was found to be most suitable against aircraft engine. It was very succesful when first deployed to the Afrikacorp scoring numerous kills and although this new weapon concerned the allies they also knew that there plans for Africa would soon put this weapon into allied scientists hands. Some say this was father of all modern day flak weaponry before missiles were perfected in anti-aircraft use.
