Portrait Lab Project

Thank you for checking out my sketchbook!
This is a project I'll be doing till October 7th for my drawing class in school (Guildhall at SMU). I’m working on my first major ‘practice’ piece in digital painting using Photoshop. The basic rule of the assignment is to paint the picture to a photo real state only using the eye dropper tool to get color picks.
Please speak your mind.
----------------------------
Project Outline:
1. Find a Subject (Photo) of a person with a high level of detail in it
2. Pencils – Define the details, features and proportions of the subject
3. Values – Work up a black/white version of the subject
4. Colors – Work up colors and skin details to high level of realism
----------------------------
Current Progress:
Finished with steps 1 and 2. Currently working on values.

Here I'm working on the values. This part is still in process and I'll be refining it over the next few days, so any suggestions are appreciatied!

Your value sketch is amazing. Great attention to detail especially within the hair (dreds). I know that it's slightly dark but that's adjusted easily.
Features look on point. Your hand seems a little larger in your drawing, might be because you didn't focus on shading as much as you did on the face, which came out very nicely. Once you start really getting down to it the features will probably be a little more clear, take a look at the small spaces in/near the eyes.
Great work!

Thanks for the suggestions, Estrella! I did get them earlier, much appreciated. :>
Here's my portrait again, a lot of time was spent on it since the last image I posted. It's nearly done at this point, but I'm hoping to refine a few more parts before I'm totally satisfied with it. Especially with her hand and some parts of the hair. Feel free to let me know what you think..

I found myself some free time today, so I thought it would be nice to share some of my actual personal drawings!
Just a combination of some sketches, cartoon stuff I do for my own amusement and for the sake of practicing new techniques, so please forgive my schizophrenic range of styles V:

You have a godly ammount of talent, and I definitely enjoy the Mario stuff. Have you ever considered some sort of design from imagination?

Yes, and it's something I need to start doing much more of! I tend to draw a lot of fan art and parodies, mostly to unwind from the stuff I would draw in school, and to practice new techniques. Already at The Guildhall I'm experiencing a lot more opportunity to be creative in ways that are relevant to my interests, so I'm really looking forward to future projects. :>

Oh, I meant to mention, that's still a huge WIP, and I got a bit stuck on it. Some day I will have to fix it up and resolve it some more..

Sure thing! Your drawings are all really fun to view, keep it up.

It does look like Vector, but I did all of those above in Photoshop with the pen tool and brushes V: I've done a few vector drawings, but I find them overall pretty iffy.
