Concept: Niagara Limuloid Titan
Niagara limuloid titan is the biggest limuloid titan in the world.Because of its gigantean size,it can't just simply eat a lot to survive.
It has a water turbine like structure on its belly, called pedrail shutter.Drived by the current, pedrail shutter running produces electric power.
Niagara limuloid titan uses the electric power as its energy of the body. For this reason, this kind of animal just can be found around rip current range or massive waterfall. It lives a pretty bored life,in its most time,it just sit there and generates electricity.

Adventures alike stalk these creatures down to see the amazing giant water falls that escape once the pressure seals burst to release the water that is collected in it's giant crown, unfortunately the best seats in the house are usually up very big mountains, but it is worth the climb.
During Hibination the Trimanne, sprays a hillside down with it stomach fluids which start breaking down rock, so it can nestle on in for up to 20years.
The longest living Trimanne lasted up to 200years, before old age finally caught up on it.
These wonderful creature a very placid, and only feed on rocks, their strong stomach fluids being able to break rocks down to absorb the minerals can keep these lumbering fortresses moving for quite some time.

Concept: The Waterfall Queen
The Waterfall Queen can be found dwelling in the caves and outlets hidden behind waterfalls. To feed they would protrude their long lower jaws beneath the running water of the falls to catch any fish or vegetation coming down, filtering out any of the water through a series of small holes using the water pressure and devouring the rest. The species have been given the name Queens because of the low birth rate of males in the population, one out of every 100 Waterfall Queens born would be a male. The only reason the population hasn't disappeared yet is because the males have triple the life-span of the females, letting them mate with thousands of females per lifetime.

Concept: The Allabel

The Allabel, better known as the "Waterfall Queen", is a rare creature of the forest. So rare, in fact, that many hunters count the sighting of these animals as a marvelous blessing of good fortune. Allabels are said to have been personally crafted by the Goddess of Beauty, Fila, in a contest to make the most dazzling animal in the world. Thus, they represent the 'ideal' of both beauty and grace.

Allabels gain their commoner name from their mating rituals. During most of the year they will cake their glorious manes in mud and oils to camouflage themselves with the forest. They also have keen senses and can move with unbelievable speed even in dense jungle, thus, these creatures are all but impossible to find. However, when it comes time for them to mate, they will migrate to one of many waterfalls mapped in their instinctual minds. There, they rinse off their muddy swaths and attempt to attract partners with their brilliant colors. Ironically, though referred to as "Waterfall Queens", it is only the males who make these marvellous displays. Females prefer to remain deep in the jungle and warble to a male whom they have deemed suitable. Once the ritual is over, they will once again cover up their colors and migrate.

The only time a person can hope to glimpse these animals well is when they appear at these waterfalls. One is considered lucky to see this once in their lifetime.

Concept: Zhvati
These underground river dwellers require the constant flow of water to aerate their pearl-like eggs. Prime nesting sites are in short supply along underground riverbeds, so females will often fight over good locations. Waterfalls in particular are bitterly contested, since they are easily defended against predators who would otherwise devour their stash of delicious eggs. The victorious females can become quite large and are known as Waterfall Queens.

Concept: The Waterfall Queen

This rare creature nick-named the "Waterfall Queen" was discovered by native cliff divers in Hawaii. Its nick-name comes from the 'crown' of claws surrounding its head that it uses to hold onto rock outcroppings within the waterfall.
It has been theorized that this crustacean evolved from a sea dwelling habitat to hanging on rocks behind high waterfalls. The higher, the more appealing. The waterfall queen is born and dropped from its mother high up above the water in the waterfall. It grows and climbs its way up the waterfall. As it ages, it jostles for position higher up the waterfall.
The tendrils of a waterfall queen act much like those of a jellyfish. Then hang down and catch fish coming down the waterfall stream.

Concept: Giant Agrathian Waterfall barnacle.

The reason why the natives of the Rain forests of Agrathia are afraid to go over the edge of most water falls in the area is not because of the height of the water falls. It is because of what lies in wait for any who can not outrun the current and are swept to the bottom of the river where the Giant barnacles siphon the water for any and all living debris that has been thrown over board when hitting the rocks below. For those unfortunate travelers that happen to fall from the waterfall are in immediate danger from this creature, if the fall does not kill the unlucky adventures, then the giant Agrithian Waterfall barnacles will surely devourer them. The natives have come to call these allusive predators "Waterfall Queen's ".

She relies on the pressure of the falling water to fill her gills while she continues her work. Always wary of the much smaller males that come in hoards to atempt to woo her.
This is her last season, the falls are running dry and she must spread her brood as quickly as she can.
It has been a long century beneath the falls..

From the Posting thread:
"1. The Waterfall Queen is a species, which exists in or next to waterfalls.
2. What is it, that this species can only be found at waterfalls?"

Your creatures don't live next to waterfalls, they are defined as waterfalls by you, which is not what we were looking for. Sorry, guys, especially for you Tommoy, since your entry was really neat.

Nubb
Cool entry, but your creature is not a species which is living near waterfalls, it is an individual trapped by some settlers.

Bushido
Your creature is too small to spot details, to judge what is it really. Also it looked somehow rough in shapes. And the humanoid alert lamp was slightly blinking, so after all there were many little things leading to the rejection.

You named your creature Titan, i am not sure if you want to say that it is just huge or that it is part of the greek mythology, where titans are not a species actually...but i go for the first version, enough massacre for this round :D

Relic:I think you could have worked some more on this. It has potential.
thesaint:I liked this but there is way more detail in the background than in the actual creature. Nice mood. I can really hear the roar of the water falling.
Rizza: I like the shape but I think it's simply too dark to make out what's what on it's head.
JakkaS: When I see your Sh*t I get very frustrated and inspired at the same time. You get my vote :)
Lander: Where should i start?
EBrown: I would try to paint across the form. That will give your creature more volume. I like it.
Soulweaver:wow very nice. Bigger please :) and some colors.
jhagen22:I really like the design. BUt I'm not to fond of the coloring. To much by numbers. I'd like the creature to be less devided by it's colors.
scorge: Scary as hell. I like just about everything but it's "legs"

great work from some who didn't make it to the poll. Go and have a look in the assignment tread.

Lander - I agree on your comment about the colors. More uniform in color would have made the design more solid.

On to the comments...

Relic: I liked this one, but I think it could have been pushed a little further. I liked the idea of it looking like a tourist attraction with the boat floating by - "..and on your right we have...Oh my God!" :P

thesaint: I liked the work you did on the 2 close up shots at the bottom the most. The cartoony stuff in the middle I didn't dig so much. And I can't decide if I like the detailed background or not.

Rizza: I liked this one a lot, but I would have liked it a lot more if I could have seen it (or certain parts of it) close up.

Jakkas: Dude, you always inspire me. For me, it was neck and neck with scorge and you when I voted.

Lander: This one was also right up there. Very cool beast! Great design and great colors.

EBrown: Good work on this one. I liked the uniqueness on this one in comparison with all the other entries.

Soulweaver: I really really wanted to see this in color! Very good design!

scorge: I voted for scorge because I really loved the evolution of your creature. Also kinda reminded me of the creature from "The Faculty" movie.

Hi Fozzybar

Just a suggestion, but is it possible to make the voting system similar to CHOW, where those taken to the polls and also those rejected can be seen on voting thread - this is because some artist only post their pieces on the 'Final Entries' thread. So for those that were rejected, we cannot view them anywhere. Eg, Tommoy's piece, etc...

Voted Lander for this round.

Relic The Titan was a neat concept since it can't eat enough to sustain itself. The picture, itself, just didn't pop for me.

AhChu You know, I was gonna point out that the creatures who 'are' waterfalls don't really fit the description for this particular COW. However, I didn't speak up since it wasn't my place and I thought these were great ideas. This just didn't seem finished, and I was still having a hard time understanding where the water was coming from on this guy...

Verehin Cool creature, and I really loved the textures on this guy. Same as above on the 'living waterfall' ideas.

Bushido Nah, this just didn't work for me. Not enough interest in the piece or vibrance.

Nubb I didn't realize this guy was going to end up being an individual and not a member of a species. This came out looking really great, Nubb. The anatomy studies pushed this concept to an elite level.

theSaint You have a really nice style. My only critique was that the creature never stood out from the background (which has significant detail). A little more love for the lizard and this could have easily jumped to one of my favorites

Rizza I never was able to grasp how this guy existed and operated. I would have loved to see a conceptual drawing of him in his environment. Such a huge monstrocity (if the scale is large as it seems) would be quite a site in a river.

JakkaS Seems like you know how to play to the crowd, cause you got my vote for favorite. The colors and anatomy of this thing are so interesting and intriguing that I couldn't not love it from the very start. This concept stood out from the rest from the very beginning...now stop winning all these contests so the rest of us can have a chance haha

Lander This one was so similar to some of the other entries that it didn't stand out for me at first. But the animal actually is intriguing to look look at closely. The environment seemed too rushed though.

Tommoy Great colors and great shape to a very interesting animal.

Me Meh, I was hoping my concept would stand out differently from the rest. Back to the drawing board....

Soulweaver Only reason why I couldn't vote for this was that, without color and scale, I couldn't tell much about this animal. Its a wonderful piece of pencil work, for sure, but with some more time this would have easily gotten my vote.

JHagen A solid concept but the colors and finishing of it just didn't set it atop the lists. A crab-jellyfish combination is a believable piece of fauna though, so great brainstorming.

Bonner I just couldn't tell what this was or anything about it.

Scorge This came out great. The realism and textures brought this animal to life. I can't say anything against it.

MarcIsMyName Hehe, hilarious.

Wow, thanks for the comments and votes, guys. I wasn't expecting this much positive feedback next to all the beautiful color entries here.

I love pencils, but damn are they slow. It took all week just to get this far. I'll be sure to post her up in Finally Finished or the Critique Center when I do color her, though.

Relic: The flaws here are not with the concept, but with the execution. I would've liked to see some larger brushstrokes to define the planes of the creature, less blurriness on the forms, and maybe a little reflected light from the water shining up at the creature.

AhChu: I think this piece would have benefited from some good references of crabs and spiders.

Verehin: That thing is weird and scary. The feet are my favorite. The shadows could use a touch more color to them.

Bushido: Too bad this is not in the poll, because you got the queen thing down. For the purposes of COW, it has too many factors against it, but it still works well as a standalone illustration.

Nubb: The pink belly breaks up the form a little too much, but otherwise really really nice. Kind of how I imagined Grendel's mom before that awful movie came out. :)

thesaint: Great prehistoric-looking creature, though I'm afraid it's overshadowed by the background a bit.

Rizza: Nice take on a classic design. I would've liked some clearer definition on the face, but I know that black and white are really tough colors to work with.

JakkaS: Don't be surprised if one day, I show up on your doorstep in Poland and insist on becoming your student. :)

Lander: Your creature is so interesting, but it's hard to really get into the image and appreciate it. The colors and level of detail are not unified enough, and the bright yellow teeth grab a hold of your eye and don't let go.

Tommoy: I love this design. Very magical. I probably wouldn't have rejected it (it looks like it not only IS a waterfall, but also lives NEAR waterfalls). But at least you got a nice piece of art out of it.

EBrown: This is close to being great, with some details holding it back, which mainly comes down to reference. Some larger brushstrokes to define the planes of the creature, some double-checking of the anatomy (musculature, horns), and just a touch more definition in the foreground water would help.

jhagen22: The pencils were so elegant, but I'm still glad you took the plunge and tried to color it. You know what issues need to be worked on, now, and you can only get better with practice.

bonner: There's some nice texture beginning to happen in there, but FORM is more important than texture. Make sure you use light and shadow to define a form to avoid a paper cut-out look. This might mean you lose some texture in shadow, but it's for the good of the art. Some artists like to make a grayscale version first before they color, to make sure their values read well.

scorge: That's one mean-looking mother. :) I've always been a fan of your creatures, and it's a treat to see your coloring technique catch up with your designs. My vote's hovering between you and JakkaS.
My only gripe is that the centerline of the creature's belly doesn't quite line up...? My eye keeps going there because of the lime green, then when the, uh... "egg chute" veers off to the side, it's distracting. Flip the image horizontally and maybe you'll see what I mean.

marc_ismyname: Judging by the last line of your description, it sounds like you already recognize what needs work, which is good. I know you found the topic a bit late to do much with it, but for next time, don't be afraid to do something really strange and original. You can (and should) always use reference for parts of creatures you're not familiar with.

Hi Fozzi, I have a question, my creature IS a waterfall and lives NEAR waterfalls (poorly drawn in the background). And it lives near waterfalls otherwise the thingies on its back and head wouldn't get enough water. Of course he is resting now so at this point not UNDER a waterfall but normally you can find him there filling his cups with water. Does this make any sense and is the rejection therefor revised?.
Btw, I voted for Jakkas, man you've got one hell of an imagination and the skills to translate it into a perfect drawing, again, super.

For the head's up, I thought the interesting part of the suggestion was "queen" and was interested in seeing what people would use to show that their creature wasn't a king.

Relic: It's a cute face, but the art seems a bit rushed, and the concept is a little unconvincing. I can't work out how any creature would have a turbine-structure, and there's no further description given. I like that a giant invertebrate was your choice though!

Ahchu: I like the "crown" idea but the rest seems unconvincing, even for a giant elemental/golem. An explanation for why it occasionally turns into a water dispenser would have been nice.

Verehim: I like the look of this creature, and the little hunting diagram (though quite how it gets so close, especially when dripping bile-like goo, I'm not sure), but the description seems a bit irrelevant. Still, it looks awesome, I look forward to seeing more from you in later contests!

Bushido: A bit too humanoid, and looks like a green, pregnant, woman version of an Alien queen. And the scene looks very clean-cut for an animal's doing, especially with the thrones. But it has a nice mood and takes into account the "queen" aspect.

Nubb: Very cool orc monstrousity, and you accounted for it being female by having it previously known, which is nice. Unfortunately it's quite humanoid, though I wouldn't mind seeing it in a D&D setting!

thesaint: How do the babies locate their own waterfall? I like the main picture, but the others don't seem to fit in with it so well. Also, the art quality seems to vary, with the right-centre of the image looking very convincing in detail, which isn't kept up in the foreground.

Rizza: I don't think your biology works out well; 1 male for thousands of females through generations means a LOT of inbreeding! And I'm not sure that the severe underbite is really called for. This all said, I like the eel-look and this one gets my vote.

JakkaS: A bit more about the creature, it's biology, feeding habits, reproductive techniques, and so on, would be nice? Also, bright colours in wildlife hint at males, so even though it's flower-like I'm not sure this would justify a "queen" label... And it would have been nice to see the same quality of art from the middle of the image translate into the lower tentacles.

Lander: That's a crown? Two-mouths, one either end, are pretty unlikely... Generally this covers my issues with the critter. But his face is awesome. I somehow suspect you got bored with the background though!

Tommoy: Aww, purple elephant (with turd-shaped body); it looks soppy and cute, and really quite adorable. Not sure if the tusks were needed though... Some other hint of defence, like small spines or poisonous growths, might fit better.

EBrown: Although it's nice someone went for a mammal, I'm really very worried that the neck will break, and those legs too, especially near waterfalls/rapids and slippery rocks.

Soulweaver: If it weren't for the humanoid part of its torso, this would be my vote-winner. I love the description, and it has a cute face! Unfortunately its biology is a little unconvincing mix of in/vertebrate, and I think just 1 set of limbs would have been fine.

jhagen22: I like the general look and description, but I worry this thing would starve to death or get torn apart by the waters. Also, there seems little room for the species to spread/migrate, which is a shame.

Bonner: A little more definition on the creature itself, along with maybe something justifying them being well-known, would have made this a good entry, maybe even a winner (shellfish tend not to be colourful, but other than that the concept's pretty good).

scorge: I wish I could work out where this thing's limbs were going, as well as why it chooses a waterfall instead of, say, a lake? But it looks great.

Marc_ismyname: It's nice that someone picked something small, not like ant queens are huge, but a bit more creature-esque look would have been good.

Wow. All I can say is slaughter. Slaughter, McSlaughter with cheese, Calhoonigan Slaughterton the 3rd. Jakkas, I humbly bow to your talent and vote magnet. Wherever it is that you keep it. (Didn't there used to be a magnet smiley Foz? I could've used one here) Anyway, great job man. Ever since I started doing the COW, you've been one of my biggest inspirations, to finish, to do better, and to come up with better designs. Kudos Kasper. Much kudos to you my friend.
Thanks everyone else for the votes(never had 17 before). This was a very interesting and less crowded round but dauntless, impressive and imaginative as well. I salute all who participated for bringing the "A" game, and I look forward to your stuff in the near future.
