Prepsage: Loving the spacesuit design there
Funghi: I'm sorry, but the grid paper's kinda putting me off I'm afraid
Oneday, I'll get the confidence to join in a DSG myself :D

prepsage Great design, and the pose is classic, it is very apparent that the alien is "pondering" on this skull.
fughi Don't be afriad to erase and redraw, it's something I've been forcing myself to do lately, and my work has benefited. Also, the coil coming out of the bottom looks very flat, when you do things like links in a coil, you need to make sure that the segment lines follow the curvature of the object, those lines should be semi-circles instead of flat. Shading lines can also show form by following the curvature/form of the object being shaded (like on the arms).
Overall it's a cool design, and a cool idea, but I would also recommend doing some research into how machines work, drawing construction machines and things like that will help, and I highly recommend getting a book like "Anatomy for the Artist" or "Dynamic Figure Drawing" they will help immensely with your understanding of human skeletons/anatomy.

I dig this topic, I'll definitely get a piece posted after work tonight. I've been on a trip for a while and been trying to get myself back into the routine of painting every day--DSG is a great way to do it!

matt0 simple but effective way of rendering!looks great!
Thanks for ur comment Djinn !
I draw with a pointball pen,so there is no way to erase lines.redrawing lines doesn't fit with sketching,in my opinion.
the skeleton doesn't stand on its feet but hangs on its head;actually i've never seen that in reality, maybe ur right.
that shadow structure dynamics thing is a great idea, never tried that before!!

Psychotime I dig your style, and the gameboy was a nice touch. =)
Decided to do a pencil sketch instead of a digital painting, crits very welcome. I'll probably keep working on it and do some shading.
I might decide to digi-paint it as well. Any advice on getting clean lines from a pencil sketch with photoshop?

you can squeeze the levels in to get blacker lines and whiter whites.
image>adjustments>levels
then maybe unlock the layer, change it to a multiply blend mode and colour on a layer underneath?
or colour on a layer above set to the color blendmode maybe.

Yeah, I don't like the background ether. I have a real hard time making simple backgrounds.

Anyway this is my DSG entry, i shouldn't have pushed myself like this because this picture was so hard that it actually almost broke my drawing spirit. Damn, why does subjects you never draw have to be so hard...
It's a bit 2d so i will try next time to do it little more 3d
