I remember.. DBZ, Sailor Moon, and Gundam Wing. I also got hooked on Tenchi Muyo a lil bit.
I haven't watched that channel since they started Adult Swim/ stopped showing Reboot, but I assume the shows got steadily worse.

I haven't watched toonami in years and years, don't know what they've been playing. I was always catching it after middleschool though. Good times. I remember when they had Moltar hosting toonami, not the big headed midget robot (unless they had changed it yet again).

I think the problem with them coming back on tv is that any kid can log onto a YouTube or another vid site and watch entire season of anime and other shows. Making it a huge blow to ratings. I think the would have to reorganize with there own vid site and kit some of those kids that do subbing at astounding speeds and pump Japanese TV thru it.

Sadly i dont think Adult Swim will pick up the slack. The rather play awful shit like Tim and Eric Awesome Show and Squidbilles.

Toonami was one of those shows that hosted the start of the Anime wave on Cartoon network and it has just out lived what it can do.

Anime is everywhere ..Bittorent get you anything you want in hours and CN is going to have to step it up and go right to Japan soon and skip Viz and the US companies to get hook on the shows of get less viewer.

I worked with Anime conventions of the early days and work at con for AnimEigo working the booth till 2002 and I been in anime for longer than I can remember CN and Toonami was a good start at getting anime to the people and getting shows out and it was good to see a US TV channel get something going even if CN get a bit strange in it original show and bit demanding of the Japanese(asking for more Big O and getting and then turning around and asking for more Cowboy Be-Bop ...SPIKE is dead really he's dead...deal with it CN)


Toonami will be missed by many as it ws their first view of anime in the US.

My best buddy told me she jinxed Toonami, pondering some weeks ago about it being cancelled. O_O Boy, was her friend mad at her! :P

I wasn't able to get Toonami, unless we got the free month of that channel on TV sometimes. I did get to enjoy it for those times it was on! Thing is, on YTV and Teletoon over here, most of those shows were on anyway!! But...many shows eventually got taken off, and all I've seen lately has been crap. :P

Sad about Toonami leaving though, even if I couldn't appreciate it as much. :(

I think it was Steven Blum. Better known as the voice of Spike from Cowboy Bebop.

I'd just opened a thread about this in the Entertainment section before I saw this one in the Lounge. And here I thought I'd be the only one nerdy enough to miss Toonami.

Seriously, though. My memories of that block go waaaay back to the Moltar days, and up until they started replacing all their programming with WB Saturday Morning reruns, Toonami was great. It's what introduced me to anime, and its what made me up my standards for animated series. Reading all the threads with folks reminiscing about the good ol' days and all the shows they used watch has really made me miss what the block used to be.

Does anyone remember all the events they used to have? Back in the day, the introduction of a new TOM always involved something drastic happening aboard the ship. They used to have competitions over the 'net where you had to fight something or repair parts of the ship, and the between-show bumpers would each be a new section of the story showing the results of your efforts.

good. It was painful enough to loose FAT TOM. naruto and code lyoko was no replacement for dbz and ReBoot. It couldnt possible keep its magic. May it finally R.I.P.

Wow I still remember waaaaay back when they had that original Tom robot with the radiation hazard sign on his stomach. I remember they also used to do game reviews here and there

By the way, did anyone else catch the Cowboy Bebop reference at the end of the video?
