Okay so I havent been able to upload ANY artwork because my scanner has been down and my computer upstairs in my room is DEAD. Its literally been two months since uploading artwork onto here. Improvements are noticable.

What scanners would you guys reccomend? Anything affordable?

I have a Lexmark All-In-One. Cost me under £40, and it's a scanner, copier and fax. Pretty reliable, too.

From what I've seen, Epson's tend to work fairly well. I've used an hp 3in1 and I wasn't satisfied with the results.

I've got a Cannon Lide600F it is pretty good...I think it was around $150.

Cannon's Scanners are pretty good.

I still wish there was a hardware/art supply forum, so there's a great area for electronics, and art supplies in one forum.

I've had my Epson Perfection 1260 for about 6 years now, still works fine.

you cant go wrong with epson, i use a giant a3 one at school and its amazing

My scanner also died. Is there any difference between the budget ones?
I'm planning on buying the cheapest smallest, but since I've got some jobs that require accurate scanning (pencil sketches) I might as well buy a more expensive one.

This is really a jungle and someone oughta know about this crap.

the cheapest scanners these days scan in resolutions way beyond your needs. I use a Canon LiDE and it gets the job done.

Most monitors supports resolutions beyond my needs without getting "the job done".

I bought an 2nd hand hp scanner (that also broke down) which was really expensive, but had even worse quality than my multifunction I used five years ago. Doesn't seem that specs matter when it comes to scanners.

Aren't there any serious testsites that reviews scanners? I have a few regarding other computer hardware which I frequently use when I shop.

I think I use the same one. Says CanoScan LiDE 90 on the top. It's a good scanner. Scans at 600 dpi max (plenty for what I need), it's USB powered and it's really thin. The software ain't crap either. I think I got it for about $70 - $80. I can't remember.

Canons are really good, yeah. O_O I have a Multipass F20 that lasted a few years. I'll have to give it up though. :( I wish I could get my hands on an A3 scanner. XD Yeah, where would THAT fit in my itty bitty space? :3

I have an Epson Perfection 3490, great scanner! I found Epson to be the best in terms of getting the right colours when scanning colour work. So I recommend an Epson.

Well my Lexmark X5100 all-in-one has just started playing up on the printing side after 7 years. Scanner still works even if it's only 300dpi.

If I had my druthers I'd love to have a large format scanner, 12 x 17" A3 tabloid size. That would make most of my scanning chores so much easier. Unfortunately, the only affordable (< $200) brand I've seen is Mustek, but I've read bad reviews of them. Other brands at that size are $1000 and up, which puzzles me. Outside of that, scanning transparencies for slides and film negatives is a nice feature for me. I'm fond of the Canoscan line also.

Epson will occasionally sell refurbs on their official site in the "clearance" section. If you are patient and watch it you can get some great deals.

I got a Espon 4900 Photo scanner for $90 and my dad got his for $40 (just needed a power cable which = $6 from RadioShack). I highly recommend this scanner. It scans pencils really well.
