View Full Version : Test your hue sensitivity
Blaise

Here's a color test to see how sensitive you are to hues. (http://www.xrite.com/custom_page.aspx?PageID=77)
The lower the score, the better. I actually got a zero, which means I "have perfect color vision" - so I guess that's good.:)
If you have less than perfect color vision, it will show you which colors you may have problems with.

I got zero; a perfect score........ but I see bands at the top and bottom of the squares. Is that normal?
Actually, I'm improving; my first try was 29, the second was 12, and I got A+ this (third) time.

Yeah, I've wondered just how much monitor calibration plays a part in the score. Although if I got a zero simply because my calibration is good, then that's good news too.:)

I got a 14, great, something else to fuel my inferiority issues :P
It seems that all my mistakes were in a really narrow band of blue-green, weird..cause that's really one of my favorite colors.

Its more about monitor calibration than anything else - on my crt a perfect score on my old man's crappy lcd 28!?

This is just pointless spam, but for some odd reason i read this post, but just in bits and pieces and i thought kidult said he got a critical hit when he was playing the colors game. I probably need to stop playing so much team fortress 2.

That was cool.
felt like color and design all over again without the tedious mixing of gouache.
The computers vibration on the screen made my eyes a bit tired though, maybe that's why I don't paint digitally. :/
I thought I sucked at color, but got a 0, Weee!!
Now If only I could draw a perfect circle I would be the bestest artist EVA!!!!
Min: yeah maybe you should work on that. ;P
Love you...xoxo

i got a zero! but i had figured out how to cheat half way through tried not too..but the "cheat" was distracting and had to skew my results .... not really a cheat but a trick.
but i think it did identify my problem spots ..(took me way way longer in the violets and blue -greens )

I'm guessing either I was more attentive or else this is an indicator as to the quality of my monitors.

"You have perfect color vision!"
Youhouu!
Shit, I see little squares everywhere now! xD
It's funny! But it is limited by the monitor... We are not equal because we don't have the same screens.
Mine is good apparently! :D

I score around 40 on my macbook and 20 on my external tft monitor. Repeatedly.
I got so insecure about my color vision AND my monitor calibration that I wildly calibrated around. :x
I think what really has an impact on the results is gamma though. I mean, my macbook has a different gamma and even if I put it to 2.2 it still looks different from the tft??
Ack! I'll do a search on calibration. At least I then know that it's really my colorvision that sucks. I mean, needs improvement. :meow:
Funny that the blue/green discrimination is so troublesome. I mean supposingly most cones are activated when perceiving green, so I thought that would make it easier. Really interesting. I wonder what non-artsy people averagely score. (I at least hope it's related to training!)

In theory if I remember correctly; yes, though I don't know if there is a difference between 'warm' and 'cool' colors when putten in grayscale. But on the computer this isn't the case anyway. Just place two different hue's with the same saturation and value beside eachother in photoshop, and put it on grayscale. They'll won't be equal either. Why and how this comes I don't know.
I got zero btw :)

Woohoo. 10, after gamma correction on my macbook. :D
Was way easier now. Also, I found it to be less straining for my eyes if I kept switching the bar wich I was working on. But blue and green it still is.

First try on my old crt - 0.
2nd try on my even older, barely working secondary crt - 1.
3rd try on myfather's new lcd - 22. Errors being all over the place.
The sad fact that crts of any model are no longer available in the entire country I live in ticks me off... slightly... not so slightly...

22 - though my monitor saturation is pretty low, I must admit that's about what I figured. I've always had some difficulty at low saturation. I'm willing to bet Whit would get a -20 if it were possible.
