Nice! Adding other peoples character really spices it up a bit. If so, then I hope people can post their characters in here, because I want to add as many as possible. :)

Lilnebo: Basically, it's all about making an illustration with one or more characters fighting against a Leviathan beasty. When the Art Crusade started out, most people prefered to design a character for themselves that they could use in more than one round, but this isn't a requirement as far as I know. It's part of the Role Playing experience of this activity :)

Oh and although a Leviathan is indeed a huge creature that lives in the ocean, I think in this case it can be interpreted as just an enormous beast?

pepps - Cool concept, but as you said, they do look a bit too futuristic. Maybe if you give them less gadgets and so. Just a suggestion.

This is my leviathan - an elemental of the forrest. I'm not so sure if it will be this big or not (guy in his hand), maybe I'll make it a bit smaller. I think the concept is done, now I just have to put it in a pose and fighting some dudes.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, and also to this crusade thing. I was interested in the idea so i decided to join up.

I have a question about this contest though.

I want to know whether there are any time constraints to this theme, basically can one draw modern character designs and settings?

DVD-1-one: The signing-up part is pretty informal, usually posting a Work In Progress and/or final piece in here grants you a place in the lists. Just make clear which side (light or dark) you're on ;) This activity is in a fantasy setting, so modern characters and technology are not really allowed I'm afraid.

wow all these look killer cant wait to see the finished projects, my first time doing anything like this.

Here is my design. According to magic the gathering a cyclops lifespan is 10,000. so I think he could fit into the medievalish times. I have a lot of work to do on my leviathan, went for a rock one. Its tough to make a rock snake like creature thanks to pokemon, so I made him kind of bullish/lizardy. maybe it will be like 4 times bigger. I'm attempting to set up a scene now.

kingkostas, I think that moving Admar away from the center would help making the scene more dynamic. Having elements slightly off center increases the tension, cause when there's some element in the center our eyes tend to be drawn to it and just rest there. Its obviously not a rule, there's a lot of great paintings with the main element in the center, but I think that in this case, it would improve the relationship between Admar and the leviathan with the tension created by having both of them slightly off center

KingKostas: I'm liking where your piece is heading, but if you don't mind me suggesting, add some detail to the lightining cracking off of his axe. Maybe some little whisps and crackles. Also, the background (where the stars are) looks a tiny bit plain.
To really push this one the furthest, I'd suggest to off center the main character and maybe give him a sort of 3/4's angle. That way it really adds a bit of tension between the viewer, the subject and the final enemy of the main guy. Remember that typically the eye follows a circular pattern around your whole piece coming in from a corner and ending near the opposite corner.
Anyway, keep pushing it I say, the deadline is no time soon. :)
I dunno, just a suggestion I suppose.

c@s I'm liking how this one is shaping up... I can't wait to see all the lighting take effect off the beast. Really push the values there and this piece will be amazing. Light will definitely be your main draw! :) Keep going with it and you'll have an amazing piece there.

Lord M: I like the sketch alot more so far than the colored piece.
I don't know if I'm looking at it right at the moment, but the way the hand is turned almost looks like the character's other arm is coming out of his chest. Even though I know from previous sketch that he is just looking over his shoulder.
Either way though, it'll be interesting to see what happens on this one.

I'll be getting started on mine very shortly... I'm still in the process of trying to figure out what kind of character I'd like to do.

Yo ... re-worked my character. One baddass evil ninja-reptile warrior of darkness ready to kick you wee silly light people ;) haha /joke. a pair ofFist-blades is the weapon of choice - magically enhanced and especially prepared for elemental leviathan ass-kicking.

My character, 'Disease' an undead plague bearer versus an overlord. WIP digi sketch. Second pic is the first iteration of him. I'll detail it later but his legs will have hundreds of ribbons forming a type of loose legging. The purpose is his victims' names written on those ribbons forming scrolls if you will.

I think I might change the guy to where he is about to do a massive overhead strike kinda thing and pull back a bit and possibly show the beast swatting away a few warriors.

Kagechi compositionwise the frog perspective is used to illustrate that someone is superior. In this case, we as the viewer look up on the Leviathan and feels he is superior.
If you'd change perspective to bird perspective, and have us see the creature from above, and probably have your character doing something, an attack, a leap.. we'd have a greater connection to him because he would be closer to uss. These are just thoughts, and I reserve the rights to be wrong :P

Crazi Ivan looks good, it would be easier if you attach the image to concept art's server. Then they'll stay here until you remove them. How to do it is in your case Edit post > advanced post > manage attachments > browse for the file, attach and voila.

Good starts everyone... Alright, it's official, I'm going to join in the fun now.

My character, Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi, is a fox martial artist. I'll tell some story later, for now, here's the character.

And then the second picture is his fight against the leviathan. I decided to go a little stereotypical with the design of my leviathan. Dragon... eh blah blah, cry me a river ;)

Let me know if you see anything on the progress shot.

kagechi: I actually like the angle here. It makes it really dynamic. But I do agree that you should maybe make your character a bit more prevalent in the image. Maybe somehow have him attacking from the foreground?
The angle gives a sense of helplessness that the leviathans I believe should give off. Sort of a shadow of the Colossus vibe :)

LORD M: The lighting on your character greatly improved over the last one, and I especially like the textures you've given him. It still throws me off though, the way that hand juts out like that. Also the background seems a bit too bright in contrast to the leviathan. Maybe you could give him a sort of extra texture work like some shrubs or something poking off of him? I dunno. I like the idea behind it and I think you'll go far with it. I just say keep working on it. :)

C@S - Sick comp. Historically, battle scenes have often been considered the hardest to create, so props for doing it well so far. I'd love to see some highlights to brighten up the scene -- although I do love the mood you're setting.

Gorgoleon - Really interesting so far. Love the muscled torso :D I'd like to see you pull the composition together a bit in your scene. Right now the three characters on the left feel separated from the two on the right. Maybe add another head+shoulders of a foreground char between them?

Rainville - Sweet action pose. I'm jealous.

RonHundred - BEAST leviathan. Earth/stone elementals are always awesome.

Matte_Art - I'd recommend you change the perspective on your character slightly. Right now the angle is so obtuse to the viewer perspective that we have trouble getting definition in his features -- it's also a really hard angle for you to illustrate him in -- I kind of worked myself into the same situation with the angle of my leviathan's head and now I have to fight it all the way.

Looking good tho. Love Eastern influence.

I am finished with my leviathan now, just need to fix some shadows. The image got a little too big, 4545x3800 - so I had to shrink it down. All I have to do now is add people's characters (those who want) and my own one.

Work's been hell, so I've only really just had the chance to start putting the final piece together (I'm going to work solidly on it tomorrow). But here's a little re-design I did for my character (the corrupted techno-mage) during my lunch-hour;

As you can see, I've upped the stylised look. This is really down to the fact that there's absolutely no way I can compete with the more 'fine art' entries I've already seen in this thread (one of the problems of being self-taught, never really had anybody teach me how to hold a brush... so to speak).

wip update: clarified shapes, and added shadows. I was surprised by how much the shadows added to the image.

It's really fun trying to do an action scene. I want to take this to a finished level by Sunday night... we'll see how that goes.

So here's what ive got, scrapped the original idea i had because i didnt really now what i wanted to do with it. Since my character was on the dark side but not really having a grim look i wanted to bring out some of his darker qualites, mostly his savagness and brutality.

Anyways here's the wips, i changed quite alot til i got to the final. I am not really satisfied with the finished but i will let it rest until i know what to change. Crits appreciated :)

Also looking forward to see what you guys end up with!

2100 - Best leviathan ever! Love the humour in your drawing, the dark caped man on a skeleton stead flees from the funny looking leviathan. Great composition.

Soupandbutter - Cool leviathan and intressting character. I like the grey colours you used in your drawing, and the nice background.

sarillion - Awesome. Love the character, especially the little touch of the skull hairpin. Took me a while to make out the leviathan, but it's great!

Nightblue - Great thing that you added the small people in front of the leviathan so you coud see how big it was. Cool icy leviathan. :)

Kmadden2004 - I love this one. Great stylish rendering, looks like it comes from some comic-book. Great design on your leviathan (crotch-stove). Your techno-mage is really awesome. I would loved to add him to my drawing.

shou' - Hehe, funny character. I can't see much of what's going on right now, but I'll comment more when more is made. :)

Gorgoleon - Bad-ass! Riding it while biting it, it can't get more hardcore then that. I like the look of it so far, can't wait untill it's done!

yoitisi - Awesome character design. Too bad you won't finish as you said. :(

DefiledVisions - Looks good so far. Your leviathan looks pretty long, and with all those arms reminds me a bit of a centipede (lol dino-centipede hybrid). Looking forward seeing more of it. :)

OK I just signed up in the Sign-Up thread, and I also added a Crusade link to my signature. I joined the light side, mostly cause it seemed more of the newer people signing up were going to the dark side. So they must die :).

Here are 3 WIPs until tonight when I will post the final, which should be rendered out better - "should be" is the key phrase here.

Looking forward to a lot of future crusading fun,

Hmm, my new signature with the Art Crusade link is not showing even though it is there when I go to edit it in the UserCP. I will have to try and fix that later but I did try to insert it.

If anyone knows why this might be happening and how to fix it let me know, I never had this problem before. Thanks.

real shame this crusade had to die out, was such a great idea, i guess its just too hard to run something like this. Perhaps a bit more dumbed down version could be made, so like not having to do the whole big leader board thing with every player, just put the winners or something? And for the head hunter comps, u could have them as a public pole (if thats easier?) or even new management if the previous runners of this are too busy, i dunno i guess it would just be nice to see this going again. Love to hear what every one else thinks. =]
