Great start to it! Liking the skull alot! Found some of the still lifes over sturated. Seems to take away a bit from the nice lighting you have. Overall some very cool stuff. Please more!

Well to me they look great. Only thing I would suggest is doing stuff like these more from life! It becomes a whole different thing. But flippin nice stuff man, really like them all, especially the last batch!

kidult - Thank you for the feedback, color use is definitely one of my weak points, I think I also ruined some still life's just buy trying to polish them to much, I never really know when to finish a piece.
Valerij V. - Thank you.
Hive_minD - Thanks man, one of the main reason I signed up for drawing lessons is to learn how to correctly draw from life, these photo studies are just for start.
SnobbyOo - Thank you, I will.
carlosranna - Thanks!
Here is a gun concept I have been working on for some time, the 3D model was made using Google SketchUp.

Hey Sturn, Nice start to a sketchbook. I've recently been looking into oil painting and noticed your fruit studies from photos. Could you post a link to the original images, so i can judge how well you have managed your tonal range and handled the edges. At the moment, first glance, they look quite believable, however, i just dropped a couple of these into ps and greyscaled them and something seems off? I think it may just be the steps between the values/tones in relation to the whole image.
But like i said, looking good. Links would be appreciated, keep it up :-)

Hey, Sturnus. I was attracted to your nice, naturalistic creature design in the Sound Creature thread, so I thought I'd take a look at your sketchbook. Nice stuff. That handgun concept is hot (I really like handgun designs with large barrels, for some reason), and the color, lighting, and observation on your still lives is very nice. What you need to work on, though, is your brush stroke economy. You seem to use lots of semitransparent brushstrokes layered over each other, which is muddying your colors slightly and changing the energy of your work. Try incorporating some different brush techniques into your paintings. Use big, hard, opaque brushes; soft brushes; irregularly-shaped custom brushes. Your already good work will become even better for it.

RandAlThor - Sorry I don't have the links anymore, but when I will have some free time I will try to find those photos again and send those links to you, but thank you for the tip about changing my drawings in to greyscale I will definitely try that next time when drawing.
Moai - Thank you very much for your comment, brush stroke economy is big problem for me, It's because I have problem finding right colors when I start coloring my sketch and I'm forced to fix them multiple times, I will definitely try out different brushes and techniques, I already tried a harder brush when I worked on my cow entry and it definitely helped.

wow sturnus, very good start to your sketchbook.
the rendering in your studies in first post looks really nice. next time I'd say you try to do something like this from life. that'll not only help your rendering of surfaces but maybe understand form more. I'm not saying that these don't look cool but doing them from life will help you to do these from mind lateron because you get a better understanding of light and form. am I making sense here? but I need to do these myself, haha.
anyway love the creature design as well. moai had a good point with brushes. you could probably improve it with different ones to seperate materials a bit more. for example use a different one for the hair on his neck and chest.
design looks great though and the colors suit it very well.
I'll definately check back here. keep sharing.

DARAF - Thank you, I will.
dlquddnr - Thanks!
Mumph - Thank you.
monotony - I completely agree with you about drawing from life, I actually have life drawing and painting lesons few times a week, so when I will have something descent to post from them I will :) .
It was a busy week so i don't have much to post. It's my entry for this weeks c.o.w., for this one i tried out using different brushes like Moai and monotony had sugested, (big thanks guys), and It really helped.

Lovin the creature.. I can't help but smile when I envision what it would look like when it would move.. it'd probably eat me whole, but I'd be giggling all the way to my grave if it did... good stuff.

My entry for IDW #84: Destructibles , for this one I tried something new, I made 3D models in google sketchup and used them as base form my drawings, the result isn't very good, but at least It was a good exercise.

Imaginary - Sketcup is very easy to learn, just search for the sketchup channel on youtube and there you will find all the tutorials you need, plus it takes just about two hours to watch them all.

hey your drawing skills are really good! i like what you have created! maybe you can try to use some different digital brushes. i noticed that by just changing from round to slightly oval really changes the outcome. i like photoshops calligraphy brushes (look a bit like painters scrap-board tool) maybe try those?
good luck !

I really like the stills. they have a great painterly look to them. I personally did not feel they were overworked. the head busts not so much, but heck, its a sketchbook. the guns were nicely done. i think I commented on the destructibles that go around even though I did not partake. overall this is a great start.

mariusz - (Thank you) x 2
Hazart - Thanks!
Walid D - Thank you, I really need to do more of them.
Dragonspit - That's great to hear, I'm trying to get my drawings look more painterly and not over done like usually do.
Anurizm - :) Glad you like.
Sorry for not updating for so long, but this time I have real reason why I haven't, in late December I was offered an art internship and at the moment It's taking up most of my free time :), It's a great experience for me and I have already learned so much, maybe someday I will able to post some of the drawing I have done. But for now here is a updated version of my entry in this weeks c.o.w.
