As the title says I will be purchasing my first Wacom tablet in January and I'm looking for some advice on which one to get. I plan to use it for basically concept art; coloring characters and environment sketches, and also doing stuff from scratch on PS/Painter. Thankyou in advance.

Get the biggest tablet you can afford.
I've got a 9x12 Intuos, and the larger size makes for much easier drawing, and it can't be beat for fine detail work!
Here's a tip to keep it in good shape longer:
Buy a bottle of Bowling Ball Cleaner. Yup, Bowling Ball Cleaner. Once a week, apply a small amount to your plastic tablet overlay with a very soft cloth, let it dry about 30 seconds, and then polish it with the cloth. It cleans the plastic, and has carnuba wax in it, which seals the little scratches that occur from use.
I've been doing this with mine for 3 years now, and the surface is like glass. Probably won't have to replace the overlay for at least 2-3 years more!

good tip on the upkeep. As to which one you want, deffinately get an Intuos 2 tablet, but make sure the drawing area is the same size or smaller than the viewable area of your monitor. If the tablet's drawing area is bigger, then it makes for some rather difficult drawing/painting. I have a 12x12 Intuos 2 and I love it to death! But I had to get a 22" monitor to accomidate the size. My old 17" monitor didn't cut it. Okay, that's all.

I have an Intuos 2 6x8" and it works great! I think for what you are doing, it sounds like the 6x8 will work just fine. I was worried about the small size at first, but once i started using it, i fell in love. I found that Amazon.com had the cheapest price, i got mine for $260, and recieved a $50 amazon gift certificate too!
