View Full Version : Color Theory

I would eventually like to have a basic understanding of how color works one day. I find that it stops me from learning how to paint, I would enjoy being able to do paintings that have reasonable color representation, but I find that I have trouble remembering a lot of the terms that go along with it, as well as the "rules." If there is anything you guys can suggest, lemme know. Books (Preferably ones that aren't to expensive cause I'm sorta poor atm), DVD's and what have you. Thanks :confident

My suggestion is forget rules, forget terminology, just paint what looks right.

Primary: Red, Yellow and Blue.
Secondary: Orange, Purple and Green.
Complementary: Red/Green, Yellow/Purple, and Blue/Orange.

Shadows contain an element of complementary colour. The rest is practice.

Don’t be put off. It’s just that we’ve had a load of easily answered questions recently and some people are fed up.
