Haha, awesome.
Like I said in yesterday's thread, I've been needing some fantasy artwork to round out my portfolio. And Rocs are my favorite type of fantasy creature.
I'm all over this like a spoiler on a ricer's Honda Civic.

My first digital artwork, made with photoshop 7 and painter 8. Damnit, i never seem to get the effects that i want. i've always sucked at colouring. i'll have to take some tutorials.:grumble: oh yeah, the guy in the nest (yes it's a nest) is Sinbad.

Cool images everyone.
plaf - like the line work and massive scale.
DV8 - you have a keen eye for strong compositions. this one included. I just wish they were a little bigger.

compostion comes with experimentation...and following some simple rules :). I paint them much larger, just post them smaller to save bandwidth and load times.

Vyle - beautiful. even without the giant bird, it still stands. In fact, if birdless, it is very reminiscent of Turner's work.

Renone> Just thought I'd let you know that it looks like Hideo Minaba ripped your work, travelled back in time, and used it in the designs for FFIX... Maybe you should talk to him.

renone, is this second time for you? it just seemed like days ago when you were scolded for the same thing.
if you enjoy posting, why do you jeopardize yourself by presenting rip-offs?
the first time, I was actually sympathetic and chalked up your action to beginner's inexperience. Now, you are making a mockery of everyone who takes this board seriously.
what a shame.

In my opinion since he did it before he should be banned. If not... an extremely stern warning saying if he does it once me more then he will be banned.
Renone: You are just digging yourself into a hole stealing other peoples work.

hey renone...i got this great idea for a character. he's faster than a speeding bullet, can leap tall buildings in a single bound and stronger than a locomotive...i was hoping you could draw someone like that for me. i was thinking maybe big red cape and blue spandex...what do you think? i was thinking we'd call him Ultraman, or maybe Uberman...hmmm....Super-duperman? i don't know...you come up with the name.

November 10th, 2003, 01:26 PM
First off, kudos to everyone with the diligence to keep track of who's copying what.
Secondly is it against the rules to copy stuff or is it just poor taste?
Thirdly, Renone... QUIT IT! If you want to copy something keep it to yourself, don't subject us to it or if you do at least tell us its a copy so we don't think your a liar.
I understand a great deal can be learned by copying the works of people we admire but this thread is not here for that. This thread is about conceptualizing. We are given a topic and then in a limited amount of time we must find a way to represent that idea. YOUR IDEA. Not tracing something from a art book for some crappy rpg that makes no sense!(sorry if you like FF) no really, I'm sorry if you like FF.
Anyways I hate to sound discouraging, I hope you can continue to contribute your own work.

November 10th, 2003, 02:19 PM
okay habit of what
every time i use a refrence i have to put it down
its a sketch and yes i used ff7 as a refrence
so many critics in here
as you can see its a friggin digital pic
no paintover 'no trace
so whats the problem
renone
November 10th, 2003, 02:20 PM
look at the d*mn armored hover craft page
theres a pic and then a painting of the pic
is that not the same thing .. ?......
this is a daily sketch group not "conceptual sketch " thread
this is why people give up drawing and do not post there stuff here
reread my ettin thread....there is no rule on "paintovers"
the image of the ettin figure was mine taken by me
the ninjai pic on my site was drawn and scanned by me not a c"paintover" never claimed it to be my own
and for the bryce i have never used but that one time so it probaly is the worst you ever seen but nonetheless i bet you first drawings were the worst i ever seen so lets get back on topic and stop downing someone for doing something they thought was a good idea
i admit if "paintovers" are a no no then thats fine
as far as carrers go i have one of those
drawing is just a hobbie
something i find fun
i think the day you forget why you started drawing and start seeing it as a carrer and not something you love is the day you failed as an artist
i will contunue to post whatever i feel is art to me
oh wait we do live in a country where we have that right
dont we or do you feel all art should be what you DICTATE
thanks for the heads up on no "paintovers"
devilbunny
November 10th, 2003, 02:29 PM
no, not really. you're not using the work of others as reference. you're copying the images of others without giving them credit. could be fine for private study. that's just not the point of this group.
and this is a daily sketch group on CONCEPT ART.ORG.

Renone, this difference is that particular artist posted his reference shot...you didn't. If you copy anyone's work, in anyway, give them credit for it. When you rip-off an artist's work, you not just ripping-off that picture, but a whole lifetime of labor. Again, at least give them credit.
If you are serious about art, I would love to see your skills grow. However, don't get defensive. Your actions have thus far been met with very lenient consequences. I've seen guys like you get butchered and blacklisted on other forums.
my 2cents.
plaf
November 10th, 2003, 02:35 PM
and besides, in the case with the hovercraft, it wasn't the work of another artist, but a photograph (if memory serves) ... quite another matter.

vurx - have you asked him to remove your artwork from his site? I'm sure you have. If you haven't I would do so, followed by a legal statement. Not only is it hard to believe he ripped-off you work, but the fact he blatantly discarded the copyright! What a scum.

November 11th, 2003, 02:04 AM
dude the owl looks like you traced it. also i cant believe you ripped off the ninjai crew. those guys rule and are progressing nicely with their art and animation. Draw your own bird! Draw your own pictures. Thats all that is asked. if you use a reference use a real photo of a bird. you cannot draw by just tracing... (unless your an inker ;) lol jk fellow inkers) look at the threads of the frauds out there... they are black listed in the industry now. take this as a lesson as what not to do!

Renone makes me wanna quit this forum. It was one thing I was kinda worried about before I started- little punks ripping off my work. But I realize this scumbag is is over 12 yrs old and it makes me sick! (I could excuse a kid, but not an adult)
there is no excuse for this and if anyone has anyway to punish this dude, they should. absolutely disgusting. Makes me want to go back into "my little vacuum" to protect my work and ideas.
really discouraging.

November 11th, 2003, 11:17 AM
Yeah, I agree. That's why I feel those at Ninjai should press him with a legal statement. Otherwise, stuff like this will continue to be rampant.
It shocks me to believe that so many people do this sort of thing. And the worse part is that they use it for their portfolio to land jobs.
At another cg forum, I read the other day about a concept artist who was participating in interviewing a new artist for the company and discovered his own work in this loser's portfolio.
These people need to be ostracized.

WOW! Well I apologize for not catching this sooner, I have been quiet busy with school and stuff. Renone as far as I am concerned you need to shape up or ship out. I am going to keep an eye on you from now on. If you keep ripping other peoples art and posting them for your dsgs I will remove you from these forums. We are here to better ourselves, not prove anything. I am removing the picture from this thread that you have posted. This is your final warning.

Thanks a lot for bringing this to our attention - we will definitely do something about it.
