There are millions upon millions of bad sites on the web, but artists really work at it. Never have I seen such an array of sites in which artsy designs, misplaced cleverness, highbrow concepts, amateur clumsiness, arrogance and ignorance have been painstakingly employed to drive visitors away.

Amen.

Even better, why bother with thumbnails or preview images when clever little dots, squares or enigmatic shapes are so much more artsy?

I have never understood that. It makes it hard to find one I'm interested in, and then to find it again.

And I love Gurney's blog so much. Great stuff about art and a little about the industry too. One everyone should check out.

Ah, that link got posted in one of those "Critique my re-done website" links in the Lounge a while back. Highly amusing stuff. I'd been saying most of that for yrs. You'd think we'd learn from the way WE like to browse, instead of getting all artsy.

"Artistic vision" seems to derail common sense in so many artists.... seems we're often victims of our own creative minds.
