I like it alot. I can't really see what's going on with the front of the creature (legs? chest? a rock behind him?) So unless you're going for a low-light low-visability thing, I'd add some more contrast between both figures and the background. :)

here is the sketch i am using. showing this may help you see what is going on a little better - it may not. the dragon in the background, i think, will be crawling up an edge or cliff of some sort. with my approach i am using very heavily atmospheric rendering. as i progress with the painting, i hope to bring the painting out more from its underpaint - also to remove most of the dark edges i tend to leave behind.

to answer your question more directly, i was thinking, and had lightly implied with a quick gensture, of having one of the creature's hind legs bent and placed upon the plane the man is standing on; as if it where climbing onto the plane. i may remove the leg entirely.

i am not sure how it will work out at this point, but i am pretty sure i will block out the background to better sepereate the fields. hopefully the graying-out atmospherics will work well with the value and color i chose to silouette the figures with.

i am not sure where i will go with it at this point, however.
as you may be able to read in the first update, i noted some changes i will make: more head space, better definition of anatomy on the tricepts (tough area for me) and better boots. i was hoping for some boots that made him look less feminin.

thank you for your comment.
