I am a student at Ringling (first year) and we recently had "workshop" week wherein you basically do something interesting for a week. I did a maquette! It was my first time so it is rather rough... but it was really really fun.
Basically it is a dryad coming out of a near dead tree. She is the last "spark" of life...

For some reason. I really really like that peice. Your concept is amazing, and even though the finished scupture is not as sharp, I still find it intriging. Good job. Hope to see more.

That's a really cool sculpture! I think it looks really good, and I appreciate such things more now that I'm taking a 3D course (not computer graphics 3D; "traditional" 3D).

Not everything has to be slick, photorealistic and “sharp” in art…
I like texture on your sculpture,it gives her "soul".
My only critique is your choice of how to colour it, if she is supposed to be part of the tree I think less contrast and smoother transfer of “colour in to colour” would be better,
But than again it’s just my opinion and how I see it.
Keep ‘em coming by the way.

Thought she's walkin out of the tree and was not a part of it.

painiac: Thanks =) I am going to start going to the Maquette club they have here at Ringling... so there hopefully will be more. And I will have to do one next year for my traditional animation course as well (I can't wait =D). I didn't want the sculpture to be perfectly smooth and sharp... its just the texture I came out with on her wasn't exactly what I wanted
Charming Louse: Thats cool =D You will have to show us some of your work!
darkcult: As I told painiac, I wanted it to have texture, it just doesn't have the texture I want... at least on the dryad that is. I was trying to do a smoother transition, but it was also my first time working with acrylics so I had a little trouble figuring the best way to use the media. The blending between the green and the red on the arm was the last bit I painted... and by then I had sort of figured it out. I then had no time to change the transition between her and the tree as it was due =/. Thanks for the critique =D
Strang: Thanks... but I am sorta confused? What is original about it?... Its based on dryads in Greek myth...

hmm i was thinking spark like a fire and spark as in "spark of life"
what i got outta the maquette was that she was stepping or sparking outta the tree(as you described). she also looks like fire...
i dont know maybe i am confused my self...
or your work makes me confused... either way I like it
