yeah so here's the dish... Currently enrolled first year Champlain College, Vermont, its been a a long week, and i already just have this gut feeling that this might not be right for me. I need more art in my curriculum that will actually progress my ability.. The syllabus for the graphic design degree is more on how to use the industries 'Tools', than on an art foundation... like who heard of a college offering an artistic degree and the school doesn't even own a pottery wheel... <--besides the real point, but good example to simplify the 'lack of'.

So like obviously I'm going to test the waters but when do i have to get transfer scripts sent and portfolios mailed, just in case i do want to switch schools for fall 09 semester?

Also what schools offer Graphic Design Degrees in the New England region that concentrate more on the art aspect of design and not so much drilling photoshop shortcuts into our brains...

Is graphic design your career goal?

Beyond some foundation courses that all art majors should take, Graphic Design tends to have little drawing. It is usually all about the programs, typography, composition, color, and design.

You might stick it out at a uni for your first two yrs anyway to get your core out of the way for cheap before you decide to transfer out (if you decide to go for a more expensive private school).

well at one point in time it was my goal... but I'm slowly leaning more towards illustration....

I feel like graphic artists are more competitive with one another instead of a happy loving artist family...

what I've really fallen in love with is digital painting... but i don't really know what degree would be best to pursue for that... or even if its worth it.

as for mirana's suggestion, i'm already in a $30,000 private school, so....yeah.

Check out Max the Mutt. I'm not allowed to say much more, because I'm the Director, but I will say that integrity is what has made the school grow and succeed. We have a thread on this forum, and a website, we are affordable, and we may be what you are looking for.
