I wanted to do a Aliens Versus Predator picture so here goes...

...heres the little rough sketch of the idea I had, basically a pred fighting some aliens, killing the one in front with his wristblades, holding one to the side by the throat, firing backwards and destroying one behind and maybe aiming at things off screen as well....Phew!

This Time I rendered a background in Cinema 4D (left) and did a bit of painting over with the airbrush in photoshop(right)

Started roughing in their positions with the airbrush...

holy damn mate - this is excellent! I guess I expected the picture to be more crowded than it is - the hallway seems over-scaled in reference to the characters - not really sure why. I think it may be the steel grate along the floor - the gaps between the bars seems over-wide. I think the overpaint and the diff. characters are excellent so far! Incorporating 2d and 3d elements like this can be very hard, and you're doing an admirable job!

i think this would have been a lot cooler if the aliens and predater were a lot bigger in the scene. the tunnel looked good, but once you put the figures in there it seemed like it was immense, the ceiling looks twenty feet tall and the grating on the floor look to have about three to six inches of space between them. remember in alien the corridors were small and tight. no more than two people could walk side by side, and predators are even bigger than the Governator. i think you could make this a lot better looking by just changing the sizes of the predator and aliens.

the other thing that bothers me is that it appears the predator is being aimed at by another predator. he has the three beam laser sight right on his forhead coming form off the picture plane? why is this? it wouldn't bother me so much if it was aimed at one of the aliens. that would make me think that another predator is there to help this one. but it appears that another predator is going to kill this one while he is being attacked by aliens. not a lot of teamwork in that.

I agree and may well change the scale of them later..it depends its still a W.I.P, for now I kinda wanted a large corridor because theres still more aliens to go in there ;)

I havent started work on the pred yet and the lazer was a temp thing to see if I liked it in the scene, he is aiming...selecting the next target, not being aimed upon :)

check out this helmet pic....

well, if he's the one aiming, especially if you're going for the same helmet, the angle is all wrong. look at where his head is looking and where your "aim lines" are going to. the should be going the same direction, considering their connected. they should also be coming from the other side, according to that helmet. and me smaller. compare the size of the three dots to the eyes from the helmet. they're much smaller. yours arehuge compared to the eyes. you need to study your reference a little more.

out of curiosity, where did you get the picture of this helmet? i always remember the laser sighting coming from the shoulder cannon. i could be wrong, you should check the movies to make sure.

(pic of helmet posted on some other forums by someone else to show me the targetter on the helmet)

no I'm not going for the same helmet, I just posted that to illustrate the point that not ALL of them aim with their shoulder cannon...

...like I said its a work in progress and I havent even started work on the pred yet, but I'll take your advice on board thanks m8!

from the books I read about them and the pictures/films I see (I have them on DVD) they are very individual characters and each one has different ways of fighting...

its a chance to express my way of looking at how I think the predators should be, not how they exactly are in the films!

thanks for your crits though, much appreciated!!
