What's your favorite beer?

So how 'bout it? I know there's a lot of people that live outside of the US that post here. Maybe you'd like to share some of the treasures of your country with your fellow conceptartisans? Most American beer really sucks, except for maybe Sam Adams. My beer of choice is New Castle from England or Red Stripe from Jamaica. Ok so if you're really bored post it! :beer:

Most Swedish beer sucks too, not as much as american beer, but they still suck. Anyhow, theres only two choises when it comes to beer at the pub, and thats Guiness and Kilkenny. At home anything goes down, but a cold Sort Guld (danish beer) is the prefered choise, either that or large amounts of german smuggle, bought from the Polish truckers that sell their goods down the street.

I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to start this thread.
My current brew of choice is Steamwhistle pilsner (Steamwhistle Breweries in T.O.). Smithwicks on draft at the right temp. (bit cooler than room temp) is a good choice when you're at the pub.

my fav brew is keiler (german for boar), a wheat beer of a local brewery around here.
that's actually the fun thing in bavaria (especially in the part were i live): most little villages have their own brewery and their own local beer.

there also are beer sorts that are called "black beer". they look like guiness but drink a good bit smoother and feel more heavy.
they originated in monasteries. when the monks were having their starving times, they brew stronger beer and camw along quite fine :)
the monastery of andechs near munich makes an excellent brew.

There are lots of good beer.

Guiness, Old Speckled Hen, Newcastle and Kilkenny are some of my favourites. But there are lots of other great beers (mostly ales though) that are really good

one thing i think should be pointed out, not all beer made in the US should be grouped with that piss you see on tv as "american beer" there are alot of good smaller breweries that make some mighty fine beer. black butte porter is very good, and alaska has a great brewery up here, they make some great ales and ambers. (easily recognized because its all named "alaskan amber, alaskan winter ale" etc)

im also a guiness fan, and i love moosehead :chug: :beer:

Standard beer:
Kronen Pils (Dortmund, founded 1476)

Cheap drinking beer:
Freigraf Pilsener (Dortmund)

Better beers:
Hövels Bitter (Dortmund)

Good ones, too, are König Pils (Duisburg) and Bitburger (Eifel).

It´s great to live in Germany and get Americans drunk ...

Its called Alt-bier in germany... i remember Tom Selleck (aka Magnum) drinking some Diebels ( Diebels is some kind of Altbier) in one of his shows. He was like whoa thats the best beer in the world... imported, and stuff... dunno! i like it!

alt is great, too. although diebels is a very "commercial" alt, so it is kinda tuned to sell a lot and not being a typical alt in the first place.
i remember very well a week of school trip to cologne and us testing all of the local beers (they call alt "koelsch" in cologne and will kill you if you call it alt) we could get our hands on. it runs well :) (down the throat)
the only downside to it is that they sell it in kids glasses. 0.2 litres per glass. thats like one *gulp* and its gone.
we, in bavaria serve beer at least in half litres.

edit: monster-d'oh... kyrre, just saw you are from germany, too :) well, maybe one of the americans is interested in what i wrote :) learning about different countries' culture is always nice.

Awesome guys. I'm writing some of the names down so I can look for them the next time I go out. The black beers sound interesting, I'm definitely gonna check those out. I'm not a huge fan of Guiness, but my roomates are.
The only one that made me shudder was PBR which is Pabst Blue Ribbon. This is the worst beer ever made, and also the cheapest, so college kids in the mid west drink that crap like crazy. I'll bet you could take the worst German beer, pour a cup of water in it, then pee in it, and it would still taste better than Pabst :D
Most people seem to prefer German beer so far, (besides Guiness) do Europeans mostly drink beer from Germany? How about French beer? I don't think I've ever even seen a French beer.
Anyways, another good American beer is Becks. I think it's a pilsner and it's not too bitter.
*EDIT*-Actually Becks is GERMAN! I'm an idiot, I just always thought it was from the US. Chalk one more to the Germans.

I know Keiler from an american friend of mine who was stationed in Franconia. I normally don´t like wheat beers but this is really good. And yes, I´m in the prussian tradition of beerdrinkers (even if I prefer to be named as a Westphalian ;))

First thing... Koelsch is not to be considered a beer :mad: (You know that old dispute between Cologne and Duesseldorf)

Well actually Koelsch is nothing like Alt... it is "obergärig", too(dunno the english term) but very mild´and rather light than dark...


You are right about Diebels... I personally don´t like it, and prefer Fuechschen or Uerige Alt. But I thought some Americans might know it, since it was mentioned in Magnum.

My signature says it all mates! Guinness. And not the new Draught style either (yano? the one with the butt plug floaty thing in the bottle/can.); Only the good shite, Extra Stout.

Other faves include Becks and Heinekin for the gold stuff.

I also really enjoy the Hacker-Pschorr Heffe Weissen brews with the yeast silt at the bottom of the mortar shell bottles. Damn I love (and miss) that shit.

okay, when seen up close, you are a westphalian. but from us, down here, you all are prussians ;)

kyrre: well, i obviously drank more beer in cologne during that week than in duesseldorf for example.
from the few examples of alt i drank, i thought it to be similar to koelsch. it was a bit more bitter, yeah but nothing too much., dom koelsch for example was about as bitter. anyway, i found that the area of cologne/duesseldorf is about the only place outside of bavaria where you can order beer :)
of course, you have to spend more time ordering the next than you spend on drikning. butthat may be a local preference ;)

Becks is absolute shite! What have you guys been drinking? It's like drinking urine! It's not like Heineken where the first bottle is pretty good, and then it gets better and better each bottle. Becks tastes more like urine each sip.

And other bad brands are:

Budweiser, it should say.. "Budweiser.... taste not included"
Miller - it's like having sex on a canoe... it's fucking close to water :D
