I suck at everything at school, Im wondering if school is really what I need to become a game designer?

The only reason Im actually still at school is to go to University, and well I have come to learn that you dont actually need a degree to get into game dsign...

Could you help thanks?

How's your realism?

Your math? English? Storytelling? Programming? 3D design? Texturing?

To get into it without a degree, you have to be MORE focused, More motivated, and often MORE skilled.

Stay in school. To pass up on an education just because you've heard that it isn't NEEDED is silly. It's true it isn't NEEDED, but but it's not like it hurts either. Anything you can do to increase your chances is a good idea. Besides, concept artists especially need a well rounded knowledge base. The more you know, the more you can draw from to create your concepts. Just about everything is useful to a good concept artist.

The art I get taught isn't even useful at all to me...

Its all about expression and writing. Not accuracy and realism.

I suck at school. And I cant be bothered because I'll fail so im wasting my time there...

You are failing because you have already told yourself that "I fail so why bother?".

Life isn't easy as cliche as that sounds....and dropping out will only make it harder. I can't tell you how many classmates were at my school (Art Institute of Seattle 97-99) that were only there because they were too stupid or too lazy to go to a real school and thought that the school was going to "teach them how to draw". Then when they realized it was still a hell of a lot of work they dropped out and found themselves in the same place. University or Art School...it's still a ton of work. But you know what? The workload you would have to learn by not doing either of those would still be a problem for you from the looks of it.

If you "suck at school", then you might want to look into ways of improving your work ethic and your attention span....possibly therapy if it is really that bad.

Otherwise...all I can say is your mindset is not a good one to have. If you want to get ANYWHERE in life, you *WILL* have to work. So you better start learning how to work.

Thanks for honesty I guess! I've really been debating doing art as a carreer. Its soo inconsitant in my eyes. I dunno...
