The boyfriend asked me to teach him how to draw.

Like I have any idea what the hell I'm doing...tryin', but seriously?

I'm thinking charcoal and newsprint may be the most forgiving to the clueless(me) leading the poor innocent, and trying to explain things that I'm just learning myself.

Hell, give it a go. It can't hurt, and you both will be learning at the same time. And when you get into acrylics and watercolor, it'll be another excuse to take a bath together... :P

It's more like help them remember cause they really just forgot. I always warm up first, play, have fun, make a mess, loosen up, move. I also like the idea that there are two ways to draw/see from, internal and external. Have them practice drawing from realy life and from their imaginations. Get them to get a sketchbook (I like the 5 x 8 in.) and draw for at least 15 minutes everyday.

Way cool - thanks! I'm really just worried about doing a decent job teaching him when my grasp on everything is pretty shaky :).

(I doubt if this is the place for him at this point - I think he just wants to spend time 'sketching' together - though the paint does sound like fun :)
