Life Drawing and Basic Drawing classes question! Heeelp!

Not sure if this is the right sub-forum, but oh well maybe someone can help me..

I recently got into a life drawing class at a community college, but they are not offering a basic drawing class that same semester. My question is, not taking that class will it hinder my progress in life drawing? If so, what specificlly can I study on my own to help that fault? Also any books you could recommend would be greatly appreciated as well!:)

You haven't specified the curriculum of each of the courses! Life drawing can be taught in many ways, and so can a basic drawing class. At Max the Mutt, first year students have 3 different drawing courses, all of which teach necessary skills. The courses are Life Drawing (7 hours of instruction plus a 3 hour practice session per week), Principals of Drawing ( 3 hour class plus 3 hour lab) and Perspective and Structural Drawing 3.5 hours per week. If you check the Max the Mutt website, you'll find descriptions of the curriculum for each of these courses. Check this against the course descriptions for your classes, and then, if you want to, get back to me and I'll make suggestions for books and exercises that will help you (if it's necessary) to fill in.

Here's the description of the class not offered at the moment:

Drawing I (ART111) Fundamental principles of drawing. Emphasis on composition and facility in objective and expressive representation, using variety of drawing media. Prerequisites: None.

And here's the life drawing description:

Life Drawing I (ART116) Use of form, structure and anatomy of draped and undraped human figure to develop basic principles of sound draftsmanship. Prerequisites: None.


My thing is I really don't have any knowledge on perspective, rendering, and just a lot of other foundations.
