Awhile back I posted some of the sketches from a short story I'm working. Here is the first painted version from the story that will hopefully get published next year.

When I read the thread I was expecting to see a Bone Thugs n Harmony piece. Which would have been cool, but this is way cooler. What can I say? Very beautiful colors, atmosphere, and a sense of space. I also like the style that was used. It reminds me of (don't take this the wrong way)late 60's Disney animation. You know, like Sleeping Beauty or Alice in Wonderland. Will there be more illustrations for this short story? Can't wait to see more!

Thanks guys!
bustabustu: The story is still yet to be titled...although I have a few floating around......
Gunbu: I like the 60's disney comparison...its wierd this style has just evolved...to think I started out being a photorealistic illustrator. Yes there will be more for the story...quite a few...I'll post as they are completed.

Absolutely fantastic, I love it. Do you still work photoreal occasionally? You handle such different styles with such ease...

strych9ine: thanks for the kind words. The stylistic comment is very very appreciated.
I do work photoreal occasionally....but I am finding it harder and harder to go there. My natural style is becoming more and more "storybook" looking ...if that makes any sense. I am much more interested with making a beautiful and unique image than I am about making things look real. Or more specifically,...realizing an image to its "photoreal quality" is a bit boring for me now. Thats not to say there isn't some incredible photoreal work out there...there is and I am absolutely blown away when I see it on this and other forums. I would rather be identified with by "my style" than by how realistic I can render something. However, you really can't deny the wow effect of a photoreal image.
It's funny some of my "personal work" will start looking pretty real and then I end up toning it down with some the line work and palette choices I favor.

One of my favorite images of yours had a man wrapped up in an American flag... I've seen it here before and I think in Spectrum also (right?). It blew me away both times I've seen it, but even though you painted photoreal I could pick your images out with no problem. I personally love the new step you've taken with your work. The "storybook" description is very apt because your images have a very epic and fantastic quality about them that is distinctly yours.
Love your work, looking forward to seeing a hell of a lot more of it. :chug:

I don't post my work here very often... I'm really working hard at getting my work (especially my painting) up to the par set by everyone here.
Here's a link to a thread over at ArtBQ (http://www.artbq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=756) to some work I've done... don't want to hijack your thread. :) Let's just say that I'm a work in progress. Painting is definitely my weakest (http://www.boomspeed.com/strych9ine/walkensketch.jpg) point right now, but I'm studying and practicing my ass off now.
There's no greater motvation for me than to see work like this, so thanks. :)
