honestly.. very hard topic (easier next time pls :P). I think mine's got nothing to do with the topic.. I suck at drawing robots, and this is sort of a mix of human and robot parts put together to form a groteqsue creation..
oh man.. I still need to figure out a system of how to colour.. it feels like I'm guessing each time.

Hmn I decided to stick to pencil and paper for this one as I never finish my computer drawings (I still have to get the hang of coloring on the computer :P)
Hmn... Started well but ended... uh... Let's just post it

I should've spent more time on the overall structure but I jumped into details too fast
I think I'll start over :P
@DefiledVision : Nice one, reminds me of FFIII's Iron claw

Have started watching the demos on this site and felt inspired to try a more loose style. 1 hour 45 min.

Had time to do another quick sketch in photoshop, kind of uninspired design i guess...

Photoshop +/- 1 hour.
Mbaldwin: The giant head on legs definitely ups the creep factor. You might consider experimenting with your brush size on your next piece.
DefiledVisions: Fantastic design. True, not a lot of robot factor comes through, but it is truly a nightmarish creation. It is pretty rare to see something that is asymmetrical and yet menacing. Nice.
XXITheWorld: I like the shape of the head, especially the strange snaggleteeth.
tuber: Has a real J-horror kabuki feel to it. Love to see it worked up with some moody colors.
Gumish: Great stuff, love the steampunk.
FunnyFace: Nice, I would like to see a lot more of those femurs draped around the robot if you continue to work on it.
Razorbjc: A lot of humor, I would like to see a little more definition in the figure if you continue to work on it.
Mysterian: Whoa, that’s a gorgeous piece.
The_Satanic_Cookie: Another piece with some humor. Love the bubbly feet.
Great work everyone.

Mbaldwin it's a good piece, allthough there are many things to crit.. I'll adress the issue I feel is most important here. All your brushstrokes seem to be of same thickness.. can it be so that you havn't configured your tablet to react on the pressure of your pen? belive me, it feels really strange painting without pressure sensitivity :) The other issue is all your strokes. Take the leggs for instance, instead of having 20-30 many small random strokes, try define shape with 2-3 big strokes. It gives a more confident shape and will improve you aswell. Shape by many small does work too, but they need to be more focused and not scribbled a bit here and there. No offense, I'm trying to give som advice and.. keep up the work
XXITheWorld thanks :) haha there is some small similarity.. I think. It takes practice to draw. I also used to jump on to details immediatley, working like 1 hour only on the head until finding out that somewthing was wrong and hade to re-work the entire thing. In time you learn to think a bit differently.
tuber same goes for you, learning to not go detail-frenzy early on comes with practice.. allthough in my opinion it's a very loose and not so detailed picture.
Gumish haha I can really see that robot run around on the ground, not being bigger than a bull's skull, killing lots of innocent low-land critters.. haha.
FunnyFace nice one. Only thing I'd crit is that the legs don't have visible joints. To me it feels like it can't really bend it's leggs.. Kinda have the same issue myself.
Razorbjc i fail to see robot in this, nonetheless a very funny concept :D
Mysterian mindblowing. Good take on the topic. Only thig to crit here is the colour of the blood lol.. darker. How long time did it take?
the_Satanic_cOokie simple static design. Good sketch allthough not so very creepy.
Ligne_Claire thanks alot :) Nice colours in yours. I get a meccha feel.. goodie. Only thing to crit would be the background colour, it makes the robot seem passive. A more dramatic colour would really make me crap my pants.
Truepinkas thanks a bunch.. you don't know how often I get that about insectoid.. other pictures aswell haha. Nice piece, could need some more values, and highlights to give volume to it.
MisterStrum my advice would be to do a sketch first, draw some lines. Starting a piece without have a "skeleton" to go after is hard in my opinion.
Dache a bit dark, but it also has a distinct creepy-ness to it. Looks like Predator.

Ok
Sorry for posting so many different ones, I came home from the bar and did this, I'm alittle drunk to be honest, but in my drunk mind it looks ok... if not alittle flat in some areas.
trying to make it a bit creepier...

I'd like to write some comments too. It will be the firt time. So I'll choose only some of pics. Because I'm quite new here and I haven't much experience to crit someone so take my crits with a pinch of salt:)
mbaldwin: I must agree with DefiledVisions about that strange stokes. Also some more values would do it good. Maybe it'd be better if you didn't use that luminous green and red in the picture. Otherwise it reminds me Terminator little bit<=that skull with red glowing eyes, white strokes on the ground which look like a skeletons
DefiledVisions: I like your saturated colours. It's similar with that two-headed creture. I doesn't matter whatever topic it is but even only colors (and that sketchy style) quite enjoy me:) Do you mixing your colors or do you use some multiply/screen layers?
XXITheWorld: I tend to pencil a paper too. It is also caused by my shit TRUST tablet. It is a really piece of crap, good only for rough coloring. I like that electronical circuits on the bones:)
Tuber: It's quite hard to recongnize what it is doing with its right hand. It's hanging a torso? With its 3 background strips it's look like some sort of design.
FunnyFace: After my short attendance here on DSG (7 topics) I'm your fan. Your twoheaded nightmare was wonderful. On this pic I can only criticize only the strange joined jaw which doesn't fit with the head to me, and that comic "lipstick" as you mentioned.
Razorbjc: Surely the most funnu robot. That little cage with that little black rider is sweet. Which is very funny compared with al bones and skulls. Rider looks like a black ninja turtle:)
Mysterian: Without questions the most developed image. The contrast between doves and robot impressed me. I only guess if it is even a category of DSG. It would take ages to paint this for me!!! Very nice colors. I think that blood is ok = It is accented
theSatanicCookie: Your last pic is very creepy as well as your avatar. I feel a strange feeling in the back of neck:D
Ligne Claire + Truepinkas: I think taht these two pics fit the topic best.
MisterStrum: I don't know why but I can't get rid of the feeling that I see an american football player during parade:-D I'd change the background color surely.
Dache: I'm sorry but during this sunny day I don't see anythink here. Only two glowing eyes.
Wow.So I'm finished.I'm writing this in my job so you are resposible if they fire me:D
Btw I though that I'd continue working on my pic to develop something bigger. What would you change on it? I'd like to do some bigger painting.Thx

Thanks, yea I also realized its almost exactly the same colors.. red blue and yellow hehe.
Actually to answer your question I don't really know. I try new methods for each piece. In this one it was doing it in black'n white first, and then overlay and multiply layers.

Hi all :D I´ve been aching to get my first post in and finally i decided to put in a sketch. The idea here is that this is an assasination robot that got trapped inside one of it´s victims skull after tearing trough it´s body :D
The picture really didn´t come through as good as i had hoped. I tried to scan it but it was probably to light as the image came through as a blank so i couldn´t try to paint it in ps. But enough excuses for now :D

First some comments on my favorites:
razorbjc - Hilarious and well executed. There's good movement and balance in it I think.
mysterian - Where have you been all my life? That looks straight from a Transformers sequel made by John Woo :p
goran - I really like this, it got a nice mood and beautiful lines.
Dache - I tweaked the gamma some on my screen and I must say I like the subtle effects. Very creepy.
Tommoy - very appealing, think it's the color use and sense of movement that does it.
FinalKnight - Cool design and great values. My favorite that I think hits the concept best.
Ligne_Claire - Also a very good concept, fast and loose and I like it.
Also, Ligne_Claire, Gumish and DefiledVisions, thanks for the suggestions I tried to follow up on them.
Another hour and half spent on it:

Gumish : Fun one :) I find the little character after see it twicely ; before I thought it was little sized as a Dog squeletton.
Mysterian : Really well done, I like all in this piece ( exept blood, but I'm just sensitive )
FinalKnight : Perfect sketch for me, show details, blur uninterrested things, I hope learn how to be so effective and sinthetic as you. Beautifull light and value too.
FunnyFace : a lot of bones on him as glued or magneticly glued, it's strange and fun to see.

Good point, DefiledVisions. I’ll try bolder color on my next piece. Thanks Gumish.
Truepinkas: Nice work. As the thread progresses I am noticing that the spine makes for a great central design element.
Misterstrum: A lot of action. I think the fire’s reflection might come through a bit more if you used some more white/less hue at the center of each highlight.
Dache: Strong mood and the glazing strokes across the left eye feel very oozy and gross.
The_Satanic_COokie: Ups the “creep” factor considerably. I like the way the spinal joints seem to be clinging to the structure.
Final Knight: Great piece. Probably the best at combining the robot and bone elements into a single hybrid.
Tommoy: I like the pulsing green light and the sort of stringy bits hanging off his hips.
Goran: this one has a sort of 1950’s feel to it for me. The large head is a great design element. I feel like the reflections of the cave walls are coming through a little too strong right now.
Whyatt Thrash: Keep going, looks great so far. His right forearm is especially strong.
Tmyohlaing: Such an aggressive technique! I really admire that. I’d like to see what would happen if spent a few minutes now unifying the piece with some softer brushes, a few sharp details etc.
Sudsy: It’s a good start and a unique take on the subject (only vehicle, skull hands). IMHO, its generally not a good idea to tear down your work, it poisons the viewer against your piece before he/she has had a chance to form their own opinions.
Hogni: Don’t be afraid to lay down some thick, black shadows, especially in the eye sockets, nose hole(??? I don’t think that’s the official medical term), and toward the base of the skull. If 1 is white and 10 is black I would say you’re working in a range of 1 to 3 or 4. I’d like to see how the piece looked after you added some “7” and “8” level shadows.
Funnyface: Awesome, I think the changes really bring out a personality in the piece.
Mnitschke: Great silhouette. Really abandons the humanoid for something quite different.
Deevad: Whimsical. If any of the other robots on this thread shined a ray on a beetle I know that a smoking black spot would soon be where the beetle was standing. With this one I’m not so sure what is going to happen next. Makes great use of the spine as a design element.
Will someone get poor Hamsta another tablet? ; ) Seriously, way to soldier on in spite of difficulties!

William b. Hand - Thanks William,... I've always wanted to be a rat bastard!... It was a fun topic. Cheers! Keep 'em coming!
Ligne_Claire - Many thanks!
Truepinkas - Your pic has something interesting going on,... I think it's the little dots you've used for the eyes. cool.
DefiledVisions - Thanks! ... I posted the pic on my deviantart page http://mysterian.deviantart.com/ as well and someone there made a similar comment on the blood.... it probably could stand to be a bit darker. I went for a more "graphic" approach to the blood, and it does stand out a bit strangely. I spent too long on it ... about 4 hours really. Oooops.... but I'm slow.
the_Satanic_COokie - very creepy.
Gumish - Thanks! You're probably right .... although it started out as a simpler DSG,... but I simply got carried away and wanted to do a more "finished" piece.
goran Very creepy as usual!
FunnyFace Thanks very much.
Deevad - Thanks .... sorry for the blood, but really, if you hang around in here I think you'll have to get used to looking at some pretty gruesome stuff!

Got painting class tomorrow, here at CCAD (which is not a drug mysterian ;) ) that should be fun.
mysterian Loving it, great rendering, flow, the transition from yellows to purples, and how the pigeons pop out.
The bone doesn't look quite like organic material and more like plastic, and I think you could have done something more with it. The skulls are maybe a cheap way to stick in bone.
I'm also not clear on what killed the bird - a mighty lick? The gun is in the right position, but seems static.
Ligne_Claire Pretty cool. reminds me of transforms and/or robotech.
I like the cocked head, it gives personality.
Could use some work and symmetry and proportions, some parts, like the skull and hip are on the cooky side.
