I have a similar problem in that the mental image in mind seems to evaporate when I try to draw it. :P It'll just take practice, which's why you should spend a lot of time "roughing in" your drawing. Roughly sketch part of it, stop, refresh the little mental image of what you want to draw for a few seconds, then when you've got it clear in your head again draw a little more, repeat. By the time you've roughed it in it should be easy to remember, so it's more a matter of going back and fixing the proportions. After that you just start filling in the final lines etc.

^ Depends on how you draw and if you even plan your drawings before finalising them.

Also a lot of people are going to recommend Bridgeman's books for anatomy. :P

The more you draw from real life, the more you know how things work. It’s getting into a groove where you can draw what you want, when you want.
