I recommend the IDEA (illustration design elements and application) at Capilano University...
It's a 3 year diploma program that specializes in two areas: design and illustration.
First year focus's on fundamentals like how to paint with oil, watercolor, acrylic etc. with emphasis on exploration
Second year focus's on digital application and process. I'm just into the second week of year two and wow, awesome. The program provides current imac pc's and nikkon dslr's as part of the package (that you keep at the end of 3 years)
Third year provides experience in industry type situations...the idea being to simulate a realistic work environment as prep.
And, the best thing IMO, is that the teaching faculty, as a requirment, has to be an industry working professional at the same time - so they know what working environment is.
Again, the focus of the program is to make us industry ready, both with the ability to draw, the ability to think, and the ability to use digital application.
Awesome? Heck yeah!
