I can see your speedpainting becoming a lot cleaner over time. Your wolverine one feels really nice in comparison to the pirate one, which I think is a bit too muddy to read as well. It's looking good overall, though. Keep it up!

Your paintings are absolutely wild! Looking at your Lord of the Rings one and some others where you lay down colors in little blocks reminds me of Zhuzhu. Awesome, especially the fully rendered Dr.Jones!

MikeyH
August 19th, 2008, 04:04 AM
looking good man!
One crit is that the images made by the square brushes are nice, but maybe in areas bringing in a different brush or rendering technique to give the images some point of interest... the overall effect of all those hard edges can be quite difficult to look at, maybe if a main area was rendered with a little bit more smoothness it would look more balanced!
great work though man, really like the Mullins reproduction... very accurate!
mMark
August 19th, 2008, 06:28 AM
Toxdel: that cat is a quick speed painting, yea the hair is little mindless...
Thank you Vimerge. :)
MikeyH: that's very good advice for the brush use, will try, still learning... hehe

mMark- first let me say that your interactive website (KeyFrame1) is so pretty. It has such a simple/fresh look! Anyway, back to the artwork. Davey Jones is very striking. I'd love to see some more conceptual pieces from you though. Even though the illustrations themselves presented here are talented, I'm not seeing enough of your imagination (I'm guilty of this in my own sketchbook as well.) I'd be very interested in seeing some more non-reffed/ from-life pieces from you. Keep up the great work!

You've got a great technique and the asian women images are fantastic.
The Dr. Jones one is great in terms of skin tones, shading and so on but from the very start the eyes are slightly too close together and there's a weird distance issue with the right side of the face. it almost looks like it's sloping. Maybe try and work harder on your measurements to position all the features as accuratly as possible. As you're working from a celebrity reference, it'll be harder to get it right as the face is so well known.
Great stuff though, keep it up.

my question is where does the guy go in to controll it? jk
hey im new with the CG and my process doesn't really work like i want itto . is there perhaps a book or a refrence site that i could go to for a quick rule of thumb?

Whether you use painter or photoshop on a tablet, they are just tools. Give yourself some time to get used to those tools.
Sorry I can't think of any books or sites for starter, go play around with it....

Nice robot designs and gesture drawings! I adore the painting of the horse, too. :)
Oh, one thing about the big robot: I think the gold look you added to the face detracts from the design. It's really glitzy and incongruous with my idea of a fighting machine.

You are amazing. Love your works on prison break. You capture the expressions of characters very well.
THE ROBOT AND THE horse are great too. Keep up.

@ Cacodaemonia: The golden reflection is a practice for metal texture, I have too much to learn....
@ Aaron: Thanks. :)
@ Imaginary: you are right, traditional medium is my weakness.... :(

whoa pretty nice portraits here!
very good, i like your use of a more "rawer" brush, it gives the paintings a very dynamic, energetic look.
the next sentence might sound a bit weird but: the robots your drew lately seem a bit stiff to me.
of course i know that robots are mechanical, therefore they´re somehow stiff, but even though, to me there´s some lack of movement. ;)
also the monster has a bit stiff pose, but it might be only me who feels this way. XD
really dig your body sketchs, maybe you should do some more detailed studies as well? ;)
cheers

Very nice paintings you have here, you make a image very readable with just a few brushstrokes, very nice!
I want to see more!
