I wiki'ed the term steampunk for an hour visiting some of the links. This is going to be tough.
Btw, Chaosrocks, your EOW title is "EOW 91 Isolation Level 5". I thought I was on the wrong thread just now.

As a lucky coincidence, I just borrowed "Steamboy" from a buddy, I'll definitely have to watch it for some inspiration if I take part in this one. I've always dug the steampunk thing, but when my art gets 'punkish it usually leans toward cyberpunk. This will be pretty challenging, but hopefully I can come up with something cool.

IceMoon > Awesome start with a great sense of space, engaging format and perspective. I can't wait to see it tightened up. What kind of details are you imagining? Ornate wrought iron, carnival colours, totalitarian industrial? :yayca:

Lucky Munky: Thanks! Im still not sure about most of the details though!

Awesome work Icemoon!
Here's mine, not complete though. Im very unhappy with this. I did post earlier about this week's topic being a bit tough for me. Later did I realize this topic is really tough for me!....:wtf:
I did 2 piece but it went to my recycle bin before this one came along. Still I dont like it .... :[ . Any suggestions or critics to improve this would be greatly appreciated!

IceMoon sweet painting!
lunarman work on pulling the foreground away from the background, right now there doesnt seem to be a lot of seperation, making it harder to read.
hope you dont mind but I played with your image real quick in PS. Here are 3 steps I came up with as a start.
If you desaturate your color, you see the values are pretty close throughout the piece.
1-just desaturate
2-play with levels and highlight/shadow
3- to go 1 more step start with warm color base up front and cool in the back.
Now from here I would go in and add my other colors and pop out foreground details and probably work on the background too. I wouldnt stick to these base colors they are just to start. This is just one idea, and only mine at that, maybe it will help a bit. keep working its looking good!

Great stuff all!

Lunarman, I like where youre going. Artiphats gave some good tips, maybe this will help to, to make your image somewhat less flat.

Sry 4 the current horribleness,I just couldn't wait to get some crit.
On this one,I've given more thought about the performer's place in the entire thing, and more about the instruments.I've seen a lot of organs, yes, they are the easiest to draw, but try this, what would become of a train, some turbo engine and brass instruments?See a trumpet looks steampunkier than an organ...
That's it from me,4 now...Hope to get this at least near finishing...

I've updated this piece again with Artiphats and IceMoon comments in mind. Highlighted and darkened as necessary and added foreground. I had the view set above the 'inverted dome' instead of inside, but IceMoon's foreground has more 'drama' in my opinion. Thanks for the feedback guys. Still more work to do, need to clean the lines and edges.

Ice Moon: Looking very nice so far. It's exactly as I would imagine a steampunk environment to be. My suggestion thus far would be to add little points of complimentary colors here and there to highlight details. I look forward to seeing updates :)

Tuber - Looks different in a great way. The colours look too happy to match my steam punk stereotype but interesting to see where it goes. :)
Icemoon - Really like the instruments and the design of the stage!
Lunarman - I like the organic forms on the foreground, the yellow does great in pushing it forward but the treetrunk still seems to blend.
3vil - Took me a while to make out the train behind the sax but definitely steampunky. :)
D.Labruyere - Awesome colours!
Fun topic and great to see all these original interpretations. I went the organs route since "steampunk" makes me think of brass pipes. The horns are a bronze age instrument called lur, I've always wanted to stick them in some picture.

Nice work, Icemoon!
Here's my attempt. Haven't ever heard of steampunk before so everything in my pic is based on a quick wikipedia research. Hope I didn't miss the topic completely!

Drawing freehand the inside of a dome in perspective is a pain in the a**.
Great topic but daunting...

I have my environment done. How does one offsite host for your icon? I dont really know how to submit the final version as this is my first time
chaosrocks
August 25th, 2008, 08:49 PM
you can submityour image by attaching it to a post inthe final burning thread
but I ask that you host your icon on an outside host such as photobucket or image shack or something. so that I cancopy paste it into the poll . and since its your first time, try and I'll fix it if I need too. you repeaters you know what to do
you've been perfect the last couple weeks
thanksyou
it makes my job much easier
