So.. Just wondering if anyone believes it is reasonable to have two bachelors.. say in Fine arts.. then possibly try to get another in Computer animation? Would it help or hinder in the long run? Job wise would companies find this absurd? Would it also be a positive as far as submission of portfolio? Hypothetically speaking..
Say you majored in Fine Art and decided to pursue digital animation? Considering your small state University didn't have that type of program? You wouldn't want to get a masters in digital animation if you have never done 3d digital work right? Would it be beneficial to have a Fine Arts background and then go for 3d animation? What would Ringling or SVA think about a Fine arts student applying for another bachelors degree? Would it help the person get into the school over freshmen in high school? Just wondering if anyone has seen an example of this?

No. Your portfolio and your GPA will determine if you're accepted. I am pursuing a second bachelor's at Ringling (Computer Animation), however my first was a Bachelor of Arts, not Fine Arts. No school or company will think negatively of you if you have multiple bachelor's degrees. As far as choosing a grad program over an undergrad, that all depends on the program. I decided to go with Ringling's CA program because I felt it would prepare me better than a master's program anywhere else.

Second batchelors degrees aren't uncommon. If you're going for another art degree, you could probably do it in two or three years, since you would already have your academic and some art credits.

As far as cgi is concerned.. How extensive are these programs? Do they start off at a beginner level? Basically from the ground up with the understanding that some students don't have the computers or programs to create computer animation at home? Or do you have to have some basic understanding or experience in the field already?
Will these schools for computer animation.. SVA, Ringling etc... Look at my old high school GPA or the GPA I graduated with from my University? I imagine it is the most current right? Man I hope hahaha...

Only your most recent GPA will be important. :)

Whew good.. I am 34 I would hate to go back to high school for transcripts. I am going to apply for the CA program at Ringling in September so I am pretty nervous. I had thought about illustration but I feel like learning something new at this point.
Is there a place on the forum to post pictures of portfolio drawings and possibly get help narrowing down what to submit? I know there a lot of people on here from Ringling and they seem very helpful. A portfolio critique thread would be very useful for me. I don't want to tick off the moderators or anything by posting it in the wrong area.
Looks like I have to start cranking out some life drawings though.. Most of my work has moved beyond that these days which is kind of painful.

hey MCM i am in the EXACT position as you (albeit a little younger) but I am going to be getting a second bachelors for animation. You are applying for Fall 2009 too?
I know it's hard to imagine another 4 years when you just want to get down to the meat of the major, so curriculum is a huge factor for me. I have a lot of liberal arts credit to transfer so I hope that will help wherever I decide to go. One thing you can look into is Academy of Art in San Fran has a "second degree" program tailored to our situation. Obviously though, a school like Ringling or CalArts would be worth staying at as long as you can!
Good luck, and maybe I'll be seein you on campus next year!

Yeh you know.. maybe I 'll get into Ringling..Who knows? My portfolio probably won't get accepted though because I don't plan on cramming it full of life drawings.. Which is exactly what they ask for.. I am entering "What I do" at this point. I want to show a sense of character development. We will see what happens.. I am also applying for SVA. If neither accepts me then I will probably just get some work into galleries again and sell stuff that way. Anyways good luck!!
