Just found this while browsing some gadget sites.

"Lenovo's ThinkPad W700 is a 17-inch behemoth that's the first notebook ever with a built-in Wacom digitizer. Designed for professional use in industries such as graphic design, photography and CAD, the digital tablet lets you manipulate images in programs like Photoshop without any extra gear. In addition, the 8-lb notebook features a professional grade, WUXGA screen with 400 nit brightness (it's actually stunning) and an auto color-calibration sensor that lets you adjust display settings on the fly. Except for the fact it runs Vista, it's like the perfect pro photographer's workstation." - Gizmodo

Seems a pretty cool idea, though the edge of the computer might get a bit annoying when you are using the tablet, and it does depend greatly on your preference for size of tablet.

Specs are awesome. Almost as awesome as the pricetag. Too bad im lefthanded, making the shortcuts impossible to work with. 8 pounds isnt bad at all for this monster. Come on apple, where the hell are you?

This video gives more of an idea of the size of the tablet: "128 x 80 mm"

Specs are through the link in the first post Brashen

And according to the man demonstrating the Thinkpad, timpaatkins, it can be used left handed, though somehow I can't see it being that easy to use compared with a right handed person using it. Also, as you say, the keyboard would be very hard to use with your right hand, your left hand basically obstructing use of any keyboard controls.

I hope they have an option for lefties.

That said, I think I'd still prefer one of the tablet laptops that allow you to draw on the monitor.

Know what? Read the article. The tablet doesn't matter and it's small and stupid. Read THIS:

the W700 has a 3.0 GHz Core 2 Extreme quad core processor, up to 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1GB NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M graphics and dual HDD Bays configurable in RAID 0 or RAID 1 (SSDs are an option). Display outputs include Dual-Link DVI, VGA and Display Port (no HDMI, sorry). The computer also has a full number pad, 7-in-1 card reader, five USB Ports, and the option for a BD-RE Drive and Compact Flash reader (you can finally leave your card reader at home).

It also has an optional Blu-Ray BURNER! And there's a WiMax model coming out!

Seriously, I'm a Mac freak, but this makes me seriously think again. It starts at $3k, and admittedly that has to get out of control after that. And admittedly 8 pounds is ridiculous, but still. Man. Come on Apple!

i was stoked to see this article a few days ago, but alas, the fact remains that the ibm thinkpads really aren't a graphics build. i use one professionally for graphics work and yeah, let's just say i'm unenthused in lenovo-cs3-crash-city...

Brashen: Ha, thats okay!

BadGeometry: It would be nice of them but I doubt it'll happen.

Dirty C: Yeah those are some crazy options, but as you say I'm sure the price at full spec will be ridiculous. Dunno about the tablet being useless, I suppose it greatly depends on whether you can work on a small sized tablet and if your work would be easier if you had an integrated tablet. And yes macs are fairly good!

MatejaPetkovic: WOW! Yeah, screw waiting for Apple to do a Tablet PC, I want one of those!

guggemmaneuver: Unlucky man, but thanks for bringing it up, I'm curios to see what 3DMark rating it will get.

finally someone has done something i've been wishing for for years! i've never been a fan of cintiq's and other tablet-pc's. i think the design would be better if the tablet took up a majority of the space where the keyboard would be, with programable buttons on either side, favouring neither left nor right, with the ability to lift out the tablet from a recess to reveal a fullsize QWERTY keyboard underneath. that, or just have the keyboard smaller and the tablet bigger and more central, then it would be perfect!

edit: orrr what MatejaPetkovic said :)
