ouch. mine died about a week and a half ago - though i'm more angry about losing the refs i'd saved up through the years than my own junk. though i guess there's something of a gap in terms of how devastating that is :P

on the bright side though, you get a nice, clean reformatted computer
...yeah, i'm really trying hard to pull out that silver lining

Well i dont knohow you can make a THREAD about this... but i definitely undedrstand your frustration. Nothing quite like a completely normal session on the computer (without many programs or anything that my stress the computer out) and getting a completely unprovoked blue screen of death.

It worries me sometimes and makes me think theres something wrong with my computer :( Several months ago i got like 3 blue screens in 2 days or something and i thought my comp was gonna crash. But normally i only get a blue screen like every month or so.

I would suggest in the near future to get a secondary backup storage device. (I use my I-pod) I would suggest this for any serious Digital artist. It can be one hell of a loss to lose your reference, art work, and inspiration folders that have taken years to accumulate. Not all computers are as reliable as they should be, not that I would ever trust one to be. When working in Photo-shop Corel or any digital painting/editing software, when working on a project it is usually best to have two copy's of the document. A back up, and the original. Saving to the original every so often and the back up every 10/20 minutes or so.

I have never had a problem with my computer and I have had it for 6 years. I use Spybot-search & destroy and AVG I keep those two programs updated and scan the computer every so often.

Best of luck to you in the near future.

You prolly reinstalled and formated the Cdrive? Or did the harddrive broke or something?

Condolences anyway, thats why you should backup onto Cd's every couple of months (give or take on howmuch you draw etc)

Just don't open the UPS tracking notification email.

Off to back up everything, which I should do every day but don't.

Macs never crash. The day mine does is the day its all rusted over and just cannot take the oxygen.

PS. Sorry to hear you lost your work. I used to lose mine with my PC. I took the initiative, bought a mac and also a 500GB hard drive, which I update constantly with time machine.

PPS. I know macs will crash and break, but can last longer than a PC with the same conditions.

PPPS. Am I talking out of my ass?

PPPPS. You do amazing art and for you to lose something is blasphemous!

PPPPPS. If it was a mac disregard the above (except PPPPS)

(Uh, the Macs at my school crashed and burned repeatedly...and the school was constantly upgrading the whole lot every couple of yrs. My partner's primary mac just crashed a couple days ago, the secondary crashes much more frequently. Anyhoo...)

Kev: Did you lose the whole machine, or just the piece you were working on at the time? D:

Any publicly used computer is bound to have tons of problems. I've never used one that worked like my computer at home.

I should make it clear that this thread is only for posting the exact same reply as the thread title. Namely, "ARrgghh! My computer just bombed!"

Use this thread only when your #@)((*@# computer has just bombed.

Thank you.

You know, I was just going to start a "how do you take care of your PC" thread. Maybe this is a good place for people's advice?

I think we need to start the guide to multiple back ups threads.

external hard drivers,

A server,

A usb flash stick

even another pc/ laptop all essential

+++++++++++++++++++

so this a venting thread for when your computer crashes.....

if you only have one computer and it crashes... doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the thread... no computer no internet unless you go to an internet cafe just to post on this thread... hmmm

haha, I love the comment saying Mac's cant crash...tell that to my dad, each and every time he goes onto his mac will be followed shortly by a series of ferocious curse words. Though the thing is a few years old now, but they can crash.

Saturns Gate: Every time I use a Mac, SOMETHING crashes.

Maybe not the machine itself, but I swear I've crashed Final Cut Pro more times than I can count. :)
