Well, if your completely new to drawing, let alone painting, better yet digital painting, I cross out all the digital stuff and stick to learning just how to draw. If you can't draw, you can't paint. Its that simple. I'm not a huge digital fan myself, but its safe to say, that even the most advocate of digital painters would say learn to paint with real paint first. But anyway, learn to draw first, and then go to paint.

thanks for the reply! Well the reason I am buying so many books is because I live in Sweden and are buying from Amazon. I plan to learn to draw first before I am going to make digital paintings. Just wondering if the other books seems to be good. Or can you recommend some other drawingbooks?

Vilppu Drawing Manual (on www.vilppustudio.com)

Andrew Loomis's book's can be found online for downloading, get them. The information is unmatched. You can also get the Walter Foster versions (basically cliff note type) in most stores. Whats the website? Something like saveloomis.org or something.

On Amazon get:
Bridgman's Guide to Life Drawing
Vanderpoel: Human Figure

Those four books alone will keep you on the right track for a long time...Hell, Vilppu and Loomis will.

http://www.lymeacademy.edu/keller_book.htm

this one is brand new, by dean keller, who draws very beautifully... his system is pretty methodical, which is good for an absolute rookie to drawing... ive checked it out, seems pretty decent..

you mean like : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0891348689/qid=1067809279/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/002-6269452-6856015?v=glance&n=507846

we have it at my school, it's pretty good. Not the best starting point to drawing though.

It really doesn't matter which one you use... I usually use Photoshop just because I've used it for the last 10 years. But Painter is more fun, but maybe harder to learn (don't really know if thats true I was so used to Photoshop when I first started using painter) Painter is more like regular analog painting. You can pretty easily make digitalart that looks like an oilpainting or for example watercolor (you can achieve the same effect in photoshop to, but not as easy)

What is important is that you know how to paint and draw. The software won't make you a better artist, just a lot of practise (and you usually need some talent too ;) )

Hope this rambling was of some help

If you don't paint, how do you make your textures?

Oh, i should have said that i was doing/learning game textures. by applying filters in photoshop or using photos...
but i consider my lack of drawing/painting skills a big minus so i want to improve!

i have decided to buy some of Burne Hogarths books (i think it is spelld like that ;) ) Since they seem to be really good. Those free books seem to rock also!

/ Thanks Lukas
