Siren WIP

This one's been giving me a lot of problems. I'm happy with a lot of it, but I can't seem to bring myself to finish it.

Inspired by Puddnhead. Sirens were part bird, and there's no real description of what they look like other than half woman/half bird. I thought they should be hags rather than beautiful women... seeing as how they lured sailors into the rocks with their lovely voices, not figures.

Any suggestions? I like the colours and the drawing, but the composition is crap! I'm playing with the idea of putting a tail on her to make her look more bird-like.

ANY crits will be greatly appreciated. I think this image has potential, I'm just lost with it :(

Id consider either cropping it more closely on the face, or expanding it, making her whole wing visible. Also, try to work out the feets and try to give them alittle more space before the imageborder.
good luck, I know the feeling when Ur getting there, but somehow gets lost on the way... :/

Thats ultra freaky, and i like the twist you got going with it. I would recommend adding some kind of broken ships or wreckage in the background, just to add to the story of the picture. Its looking pretty neat, though i think you should add some more darks to where the wing meeds the body. good job and keep it going

The concept is awesome. There's definitely a whole lot of potential there.

A couple of ideas for consideration ...
- Open her mouth so she looks like she's actually singing.
- Lift the front wing so it's angled upward more, rather than almost parallel to the horizon.
- More hair, long flowing, beautiful hair that will catch a man's eye from a distance.
- Introduce some darker, richer colors into the background.
- Maybe a hint of a ship or a boat toward the horizon.
- Give her some feet, preferably nice gnarled, taloned feet. ;)

Johannes: I'll experiment with some different ways of cropping.

Dryfire: Broken ships might work, and I agree with the wing darkening idea.

Petra: She's gonna have bird feet! Really nasty looking ones.

Carnifex: I agree with you. I know enough about bird anatomy to know that (obviously, they have a massive breast for their body size), but I was going for the effect of a sunken chest because I thought it would work better with the overall anthro design. The whole thing isn't written in stone and I might change it later. Thanks. :)
