Heleu,
This is my first ever post on CA, but have been folowing the work of artists around here for some years. It's as inspiring asmuch as it is painfull to browse around here. So much genious...
Hope to make a career out of concept art and am open to all forms of critique anyone can put into decent words. "It's sucks", however true, is not constructive critisism I understand. :geekg:
Here are some more recent sketches, in time colour updates will folow.
Cheers
**edited the next day: The first few are horsemen of the apocalypse sketches. Wanted to try a new look and approach. It's Famin, Pestulance and War. Still working on Death as the supreme aspect.

BlackSpot, Madhatter, Nam, Nallen, Envisor, Radio24, MrSmith, thank you kindly. There were some uplifting remarks I didn’t expect, or so soon after posting. Appreciate the imagination comment and will see it as a focusing point on things to come.

Thanks all for the coments :)
Here are some updates of the robots made for my emam/game-concept and bachelor
work. The bachelor work was something on immersion and character design.
The colors of these designs arent clean and the overal is half done. Couldn't spend
more time, at the time and am struggeling with non organic things. These models are
made to find a style for types and models of robot, Like clockwork-, hydrogen- or
steampowered robots.

2H speed paints.
Want to do a series of two hour speed paintings, in colour, one layer and try not to use too many tricks like saturation or colour balancing and layer effects.
This is where I stopped after two hours. The idea started as "something with a tropical island" and became this.
Might do some needed distance/lighting changes, although that's beside the point.
More later.

Xmas speedy...
I painted a christmas card last christmas. We (Son, lady and I) wanted to cheer up the "Great Pine".
For practice; I wanted to do it without a line drawing/sketch underneath the painting like I always do.
I also wanted to figure out odd lighting without tricks or layer effects, but painting. (weakness)
It took about 4,5 hours and needs many touch ups. I was on a tight time frame with many Xmas interruptions and duties ;P
:: It could be better. ::

Made these today, inspired using pictures from "Dream Worlds" by Hans Bacher.
So had some examples to work with.
Everything was about more "painting in colour" studies and speed.
I did not count the time for smoking brakes, taking a piss or eating. Nerrvishhss...
The time under the pages is drawing time. Hope you like.

Hey, ye bastid, interesting new toys you're bringing ;)
Hm.. you need to break free some more when you're doing the speedily bits, they somehow seem somewhat forced. You sure are getting better at colours and their clearity when colouring! Eh.. if that makes sense. Nwah, methinks you know what I mean, ye younger twin.

Thanks matey for the comments, it's true that I've forced these pictures and am still unsettled by doing speedies. Glad you saw it. Coming from you, I am happy to hear my colours are picking up, nevertheless, have a long ways 2go.
I will do more loose speedies soon, these are just variations of existing pictures.

Hiya,
I recently did an art test for a Dutch company called Spellborn NV.
They've created "The Chronicles of Spellborn", an on-line RPG worth
checking out. One of the cool features is that they use "actual combat"
instead of the usuall battle system and variables used in games like Warcraft
or Warhammer online.
For more info go to: www.tcos.com (http://spellborn.acclaim.com/)
I didn't get the position, because they were looking for a lead artist first
before filling another art position. Shame really, had I known that,
I'd have spend every waking hour on it. -_-'
Here are sketches and pieces I made for their test, enjoy.
Please C&C or advice me as much as you'd like ;)

This is a creature design, I had most fun with of all!
Originally done or the Spellborn art test, it was greatly inspired by Mr. Carlos Cabrera's (http://www.carloscabrera.com.ar/)
kind words and awesome art. His design of the "Negrotuerto", for CA's CHOW 09:
Qute but deadly, also helped.
Furthermore I felt inspired by the character Thom Merylin, from the Robbert Jordan's (RIP);
"The Wheel of Time" books. He was a "Gleeman" and had a patched cloak of sorts.

These are a top- and side-view I did for fun and Practise afterwards.

This is a first sketch for the Protector of CHOW's Team beta-project.
Our team is Turd Burglars; Mvocet, Siiilon and yours truly.
Our views still differ, but we want to do a post apocalyptic future thing.
My take on it is that we take 6 random people from different periods of
history to fill the roles of the 6 characters. ( hero, shadow, protector,
technician, sage and rabble rouser. )
This way, we could incorporate clothing styles like baroque, early Greek,
1500's, etc., with futuristic clothing and gadgets. "An unlikely cast of
individuals brought together."
This is a take on a Maori (Tribal leader?) in the future as "Protector".

with colour or values now. I rarely do clean line-art pieces (patience)
and rarely use a scan to work on, unless its for a job.
jNeumann: Thanks, happy you liked them.
all winter hopes: woah... thanks :) the mummy is "Pestilence" :}
MaartenR: That helps to think about doing the digital pieces.
Thanks for the excellent link btw! Great stuff.

I can't show yet. "A study turned into a game-concept design -thing.."
It connects to a friend's "intellectual property", etc.

hello? um, i'm new here. I love your art and have the same goals as you. My art is not quite as good as most people in here, but my art sort of mimics yours. Do you think you could email my account or try and contact me to show me the ropes? Your art is, in my opinion, is good enough for most studios. I think you should apply for a position.

I just heard I can finally show some of the stuff I did at the former Coded Illusions in 2007.
The company is now called Vertigo Games, the title I worked on is "Nomos". It was a very
cool company and project to work on, learned allot, crazy people, etc.
dwardo: Thanks for the advice and you too. I usually just use whatever's at hand though, unless Its for something.

Thx Eugie ;) keep up those wicked studies.
I just finished some work for a video Clip.
More info about that later. It was directed by Hugo Keizer and done by Corino Films.
I had to make comic-based frames (TV resolution), which would be used for the ending of a
video clip. The characters are based on actors in costume.
I tried to give it a comic feel, fit for tv, strugled with time, angles and a computer crash. So...
Please comment your hearts out!
