Hi guys,
just wanted to share some of my texture and sss shader renders.
The model was done in maya and detailed in zbrush and still is a WIP, want to sculpt it a bit more and get our guys crit's how to make it better. But I wanted to start some texture and sss shader tests, so the texture is projection mapping that I did in maya that and baked the projections to files that I took in to photoshop and made one single texture file that I use for now just to get something on there. This render was with a very basic sss shader and not much tweaking at all and the eye's was done in a different scene so the scale was a bit off.

In this render I did some changes to the specular map and the eye don’t reflect anything yeat (raytracing is turned of on that shader for now) the shadows are to sharp but will fix that later, but over all getting better.

This render the raytrace option is turned on for the eyes, to get some reflections I have some nurbs planes with a simple texture and the incandesces turned up to max. But the eye looks wired have to check the geometry. And for the sss shader I put in map's in the epidermal , subdurmal color and a weight map to get rid of that plastic look, but still some more tweaking to do.

Same render but change the color values in photoshop to see what type of look I want. I think I like a cooler look so let’s try that.

Here is the color change in the scene and added some water in the eye. And fixed the shadows to blur a bit more, and the geometry for the eye is also fixed.

This a different shoot but the same setup, so the nose and ears needs some attention in Zbrush.

Just some light changes.

Here I went in and put some more red on the Texture map so she looks more alive.

I posed the head a bit, an I really have to fix that nose.

Same render with some quick hair painted in PS to see if she looks better, its the nose and the eyes that’s bugging me so lets fix that.

Here the nose and eye's are fixed

Here the nose and eyes are fixed, but have to fix the texture edge and the eyes.

This is the same render but has some color correction in PS and some quick hair to see how I want it.

Not finished but closer to what I wanted have to fix textures seams and to draw some concepts for the earrings and clothing.

Thanks for reading, more coming!!!

Holy cow. That looks really impressive. The improvements in the proportions of the face are really evident as you progress through the images. The nose and eyes look quite out of place in the earlier renders, but look perfect in the later ones. I assume you have used photos for the textures? That amount of detail would be hard to make so realistically.

As for crits from me, I can't really find anything other than the texture stretching on the ears, but you already said you still need to work on the ears.

What technique did you use to make the texture? The best technique I have come across is the one in this tutorial (http://www.bendansie.com/HeadTutorial/BD_BlenderHumans.html), and I would like to learn more about skinning techniques.

I can;t really see any SSS in those renders, though. It is good to keep the SSS subtle, but it really looks like you just have SSS going on the sides, the front on faces still look solid.

But still, it is very impressive work, keep it up.

You need to put some difuse on those eyes there really bright the lips are pinching together at the ends which make her look really CG. Her kneck is oddly thin at the top before it flows into her skull and her ponty tail looks grey. I think that you have made some definate improvements looking at your post and then seeing this last pic I think that you could really nail it if you were to refine these subtle aspects.
