NEW:
Here are two more cityscapes that will be in the cityscape show at John Pence Gallery. The opening is this Friday, Sept. 5th from 6 pm to 8 pm. You should all come. Bring your friends. Bring your family. Bring your dog. Bring whoever. Especially if they have beer money for afterwards!!!!!!
See ya there!
OLD:
I know the title sounds like something you could find at a shop on Folsom St. but I'm talking about a different kind.
I've been super busy with the Next Gen Atelier this year (check that thread out if you haven't seen it yet) but I've managed to make a couple of paintings that are going to be in some upcoming shows.
The portrait and skull painting are one piece. Panel painted on both front and back side. It's part of a continuing series of "Vanitas" portraits I'm doing. It'll be in a show coming up in Oct.
The cityscapes will be one of three that I have in a show coming up at John Pence. The gallery hasn't received the paintings yet so you can't find them on line yet.
But the opening is on SEPTEMBER 5TH and YOU SHOULD ALL COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd love to see you there!!!!
Speaking of cityscapes, we all know how much perspective is involved which brings me to my shameless plug---
We just put out the first volume of the educational perspective downloads. Check it out in the Download and Tutorials forum if you're into that sorta thang.
http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=132875
I need to re-shoot photos of the other 2 cityscapes and hopefully I'll post those pics in the next day or two.
Anyway, hope y'all will enjoys these.

This has nothing to do with the art, by the way is great. What does the ear ring rep? I have seen it alot and just want to know. If it has any at all.
No, that would be going back to the steriotypes and it would be on the right side not the left.

aww man that painting of the highway to oakland makes me teary eyed and miss being in the bay area again. I know that exact spot as I wandered there a few times looking for stuff. And since I use wheelchair to get around that was the point where the sidewalks got a bit iffy and i turned around ;P

I love your stuff. Feels like an oil painting you can't replicate in a program (that I've seen). Nice atmosphere feel under the interstate. Nice colors on this underpass piece, looks almost traditional with all the browns. Simple and powerful pieces. Nice idea on the skull, feels very contemporary. Wonderful paintings. :asskisser:

Sup dude! So yeah these are super nice - I must say though I've still yet to see a reproduction of your work that did the original justice (except for the one in Juliette Aristides' Classical Painting Atelier book - which everyone should check out - but then I'm making an assumption cause I haven't actually seen that painting haha)
Anyway, you know I'll be there in September, and look forward to meeting a few new people too - so everyone come show daddy love.
PS: Buy carl's product.

I agree with Layil, where are the rest of them??? That painting of Jedmo is so much more vibrant in real life. You know, like you Carl! Then again, how can a machine possibly emulate such vibrancy and depth. Definitely one of my favorites from you.
Now stop being such a dick teaser and post some more. :P

this song is for you carl!
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-o-one
I dont know where Im running now, Im just running on
Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But Im running behind
Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive
In sixty-nine I was twenty-one and I called the road my own
I dont know when that road turned onto the road Im on
Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But Im running behind
Everyone I know, everywhere I go
People need some reason to believe
I dont know about anyone but me
If it takes all night, thatll be all right
If I can get you to smile before I leave
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
I dont know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels
I look around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through
Looking into their eyes I see them running too
Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But Im running behind
Honey you really tempt me
You know the way you look so kind
Id love to stick around but Im running behind
You know I dont even know what Im hoping to find
Running into the sun but Im running behind

For those of you who only read threads once you see my name is the last post (I know there's at eight people who do this*) then you should all get of yo ass and come down to Carl's opening tonight where he done some paintings with perspective in them. They're really good and the more of you that come the less time he'll have to rag on me for my lacklustre performance.
It's here: http://www.johnpence.com/
