Hey mob of artisticly gifted people,

I've been a silent lurker for the longest time, I had the nerve to post once and got slaughtered. Since then I think I've improved enough to dare a second time.

In any case constructive critisims is very welcome!

Here is some stuff from 2 years ago up until now:

Practicing some perspective and faces at the moment. I'll post more once I've scanned some stuff from the last couple of weeks.

Very nice start.
It seems the further I scroll down, the more I see an understanding of things like anatomy and digital painting. Must mean you're catching those flaws in your previous works and studying hard. :]
Keep it up. :D

Egoboost, WOHOOOOO!!!! :D
*Does egoboost-dance*

EDIT: Although egoboosts are very nice, pointers would be cool too on how to improve and what is still wrong etc.

you have som eissues with proportion , try to work on the whole body as a one , parts per parts is ok for detailing but i think it's better to know first the rights proportions , you can work on silhouette fo exemple ! keep it up :)

@Asashi: The problem with proportions (for me at least) is that I don't notice it until years later when I've improved. Is there a trick for checking the proportions? I know the eight heads rule, but how do you apply that when you are dealing with perspective and figures in motion?

No no, I wasn't scared away. Just lazy. :D

I tried as best as I could to take the good advice into account and came up with the following:

In retrospect I could have probably gone darker with the darks. :(

Just some color practice. Didn't really succeed as well as I was hoping for...
I'll get there. One day. :P

LET'S KILL HIM!

No, seriously your art is actually stellar, with some great shading and character design. The detailed realistic figure paintings are especially impressive, and I'd like to see more of them.

Cool stuff! :)

Hello there. Pretty nice stuff you got so far.

I think pushing the values in some of your works may benefit you. For example, there should be some highlights that are way lighter on the girl because there's a strong light source directly above her. And remember to incorporate some complementary colors in your shadows. It will help you make your shadows darker when you need them to be.

Keep up the good work. Your color schemes are lovely.

And another color study, a bit more succesful this time. It seems I'm not a total disaster when it comes to portraits at least.

Can anyone tell me though why these drawings look ok at this size, but completely stupid when zoomed out until they are really small?

man last one is looking great so much improvement from the last update.. :) just a little thing to point out..erm...I think there's too much contrast in her ear, and also her ear looks a bit odd, if you get some reference you'll understand where the problems is...tragus and antitragus look fine, the helix looks good too however the antihelix...looks like you missed that one, by rendering the antihelix not only will the ear improve but also the composition I guess since you'll the viewer's attention out of that spot, unless that was your main subject which i doubt hehe. keep it up and post more often :)

Because you can often get lost in detail, or start looking at individual parts instead of the whole.

Get in the habit of stepping back from your drawing; or, if you're in digital, zoom way out. This should help you get a better handle on the large shapes, and large areas of tone... and will definitely get you away from detail and smaller shapes.

The big shapes are what make the drawing look like the subject. Errors in details are less detectable.
