Still Thinking of a Thread Title

Soooooo um yeah. I think it's about time I start a sketchbook... I'm hoping that the fear of sucking in public will motivate me to draw more, and get better. :)

Here are some sketches from the last few weeks. I think they're a bit timid... it's been about 5 years since I was drawing the figure from life regularly, so I hope to see myself improve from here...

Wow! You have some very lovely life drawings. What kind of pencils and paper do you use? How long do these take you? I'd love to see more, seeing as I'm struggling myself. :^^;:

Jessica, this is a wonderful start for your sketchbook! I really like your use of line, lost and found and the accents. You've inspired me to try out the tech graphite stick. Oh yeah, I forgot to ask you: What kind of paper did you use for today's lifedrawing:) Looks like it didn't have much of a tooth.

Diego - Thanks! And I'm a stickler for presentation! :p ha, thanks for noticing.

SkyTheArtist - I've been using a few different drawing tools, still trying to decide what I like best. What you see here is either graphite or conte (you can probably tell which is which). The figure drawings above took between 1.5-2.5 hours... depending on how late I showed up to the studio session! :p

KidApe - Nice seeing you at the studio again. After I got home I added the black background cause I thought she getting lost in the paper too much. The Rives BFK paper actually has a bit of tooth, it's 100% cotton but super resilient, it can stand a beating with the eraser and still look pretty. It feels kinda soft & velvety, super nice. It comes in a big sheet, so I cut it up into smaller pieces. Jason recommended it to me. The leadholders are cool, I bought them in San Francisco, but you might have to order them online here.

"Get Hooked" would be a cheesy, yet appropriate sketchbook title, as I'll be checking back quite frequently!
