EDIT: We have found an excellent penciler. Please check out our listing for a comics finisher "Hiring Finisher (Inks/Color or Painting) for Gay Comic". :-)

Hello!

I'm offering upfront pay for pencils and inks/colors for a 30-page gay action-romance comic to be finished by the end of this year. High quality digital art for both pencils and finishing is, of course, fine and although I am based in San Francisco, I am happy to collaborate over the Internet with an artist not based locally.

This is a work-for-hire project, full payment upon approval of the pages for publication (and installments paid as stages of work are completed throughout the project). Payment will be $65/page for just pencils or $130/page if you can take the work through finished, publication-ready color art (which would be my ideal way of working with an artist).

For this comic, I'm looking for a naturalistic style with clean lines, expressive characters and uncluttered backgrounds. Strong life-drawing skills are essential as is the ability to clearly portray both subtle and strong emotions. Character design samples should ideally show sweet-faced, boy-next-door, regular guys -- no muscle-bound porn stars or wispy bishonen, please.

Artists whose work I like include Takeshi Obata, Ryoichi Ikegami, Jiro Taniguchi and Katsuhiro Otomo.

This short comic -- "TOUGH" -- is about an attempted fag-bashing that gets turned back on the attackers in an unexpected way. There's action, humor and some romance. (And while there is no explicit sexuality in this particular comic, future work would certainly include tasteful and artfully drawn erotic scenes -- you should absolutely *enjoy* the prospect of working on a gay-themed romance. If you feel any squeamishness around this, this is not the right project for you.)

Send comics experience and links to sequential art (a must) to artistsearch@gmail.com. If we work well together, there would be longer projects, also for upfront pay. (Also please let me know that you found this listing on conceptart.org -- the artist I'm currently working with I found here and it's been a very positive experience.)

*Please* do not respond unless you have actual comic pages to show me (in additional to single panels, which are, of course, helpful, too). I am looking for someone with experience in drawing sequential art, no exceptions.

Artists I have worked with are available for references (that I pay on time, etc.) If you are curious what our comics look like, you can check out this somewhat Not Safe For Work page from our web site:
