[ Steel wolf traps are those godawful inventions that are like metal jaws that snap shut on an animals leg, thus preventing its escape whilst preserving the looks of the fur. ]

[ Evil fucking things. ]

[ Anyways, this one has caught something unexpected. ]

ErikTheRed I like the mood in the piece, but it's a bit unclear whats happening. Try defining the shapes more, with sharper lines. Did he catch a giant alien? cause thats what it looks like to me!

Sudsy hilarious comic hehe, and thanks for the ref.

Goran very nice render. Great piece overall.

Thanks for the critique man. Yeah, its supposed to be that he's caught a giant alien, and doesn't realize it yet. I don't sketch often enough (thus why I'm starting the DSG.) so I'm not real good at showing a lot with a little.

Goran: For being so small, that alien is pretty badass.

Sudsy: Oddly enough, reminded me of the season finale of Trailerpark boys, where they are between Canada and America, and the American police, Canadian Police, and Park rangers all want to arrest them.

Goran, EriktheRed, and Funnyface, my only complaint is your traps are too big for "wolf trap" and have teeth which would ruin the pelt... Wolf traps are halfway between the size of my reference and a bear trap. A poacher values the pelt so much, the traps with teeth would be avoided... Thanks for your comments!

Lots of funny entries!
Erikthered: Lovely colors, it is kinda hard to amke out but the huge face is immediatly visible.
goran: this sure is a different approach then your usual work, nice!
funnyface: lol, thats priceless!
clochette: love the style you executed that in! Lovely colors!
sequential: lol cute and gore? haha, that's dope.
064: whoa...lovely work, brilliant atmosphere and lighting effects. amazing!
chaosrock: guess thats a similar idea like mine, except yoru alien looks monstrous!
badgeometry: that poacher looks brilliant, I love his expression! thats the way it would be :D
tommoy: haha, lots fo people went with the huge alien approach. Each their own though. I love the characters expressions. Brill.

Mine is like chaosrock, the hunter becomes the hunted.

I can't resist anymore, I tell my thoughts before I draw something (I have an idea with narrative text, names, everything... :))...

Sudsy: thanks, without you I would use that old trap with teeth... well, the teethy one is more showy and represents "it's a trap" with only a few lines...

goran: a quality work as usual. I like this style and what an expression :) nice composition, background, wow.

Clochette: another favourite! the expression is great, and the pose too, poor little guy holds its leg with its arms... :(

chaosrocks: oh thanks, I've wished for something like this :D the Evil Poacher gets what he deserves... blood and death, justice above all...
my own picture won't have blood, only punishment. so I needed this :)

Hamorhage: nice idea.. but maybe the img would look better if u kept the focus on the alien/rabbit... the eyes of the viewer are first looking at the woman.. the alien goes more into background. a bit sad, cause the alien is very funny to look at ;] think about it

Nice work everyone!

Erik The Red
Slightly confusing as to what we’re looking at here. The head of the alien and the hunter is clear enough but after that it gets a bit hard to tell whats what. Good use of your two primary colours on differentiating the poacher and alien.

Sudsy
First and foremost I’ll echo the others on the trap reference: Thanks! (even though I messed up and went with the iconic toothy and oversized one)
Always refreshing to see a humorous comic take on the DSG, well done!

Goran
Always one of the first and always with great quality, setting the tone of the topics.
Great energy and a nice introduction of the poachers coming over the hill.

Funnyface
An adorable alien :]
Very nice and clean, good work on the poacher. I like how he’s walked all the way up to the trap and then starts raising his view…

Clochette
An even more adorable alien!
At first glance I thought the poor creature was stuck by the very least favourable body part of any kind of species, but upon closer inspection I do believe it’s a regular appendage. (at least I hope so!) Great colours and story. Very soothing to look at.

Sequential76
Crisp and gory!
I’m pretty sure that’s not how (that) E.T thought he’d wind up :>. Good contrasts and a clear image of the painful action. Good work on the trap, very readable.

064
Sweet contrasts here as well. A mysterious and eerie sheen to it all. The dog is a great addition but I have a hard time telling what goes on by the lower left part of the dog, is that a spike coming out of the dogs front legs?
All in all an engaging piece and just like you yourself said, Mulder would be all over it ;]

Prepsage
Great work as always. Very painterly and great energy, the lack of blood on the severed head is a pretty sweet detail, gives an impression of a pretty damn fast alien :]

Chaosrocks
Attack of the giant stinging yellyfishies! With teeth at that.
Great idea of the poacheé turing the tables.

Bad Geometry
Very clear image, immediately recognizable characters with the poacher with his rifle and the alien in a bubblehelm and handgun. One can quickly tell what’s going on in the image, a great expression on the poachers face. Good work!

a la bapsi
Looks like the discopoacher can’t stand to face his prey. Adorable alien, and stuck by the tongue the poor thing. Great look on the aliens face, looks like a curious traveller from the stars in an unfortunate accident.

Tommoy
Hilarious scene and great characters :]
Love the expressions, that is one upset alien.

Hamorhage
Another fun piece, tables turned and the poacher might just go home with two trophies.
Just like addleheaded mentioned the eye goes to the poacher immediately with a few more contrasts of slightly blacker black in the lines up there.
It’s a bit confusing with the same reddish colour on all the three characters. Fun expressions on all characters.

Whyatt Thrash
No problems finding the alien in this piece, but the hunters legs take some identifying, beware of that distracting ultrablack. Still a fun piece though.

Very good point to make the viewer look at the alien first. I'm such a beginner when it comes to composition.
prepsage: did u upload that now or was that there before, didnt show last time anyway.
It's cool it almost reminds me of a picture by Ashley Wood.

ErikTheRed, that giant alien looks very malicious with that slanting eyes.

sudsy, lol. the alien looks kinda adorable. thanks for the ref picture of the trap, too.

goran, great entry. my fav of the bunch, i think. very simple, but it tells the story. can feel the alien's urgency and frustration. the lighting is very effective.

funnyface, your alien looks kind of like a gentle giant. good use of body languages in both figures. the presence of the tree also increased the heightened effect of the size of the alien.

clotchette, oww. i actually feel sorry for the alien. the lil guy's hurting. i like your pastely style of colouring.

sequential76, OUCH. is it dead? it really looks like the trap got the alien good. the blood effect is great. the staring one-eye is very striking too.

064, very nice picture. it looks finished. the alien looks really vexed at the hunter, and lighting adds drama. very nice.

prepsage, SWISH! goes his head! that's really the wrong kind of alien to have accidentally trapped. i like texture. can feel the speed of the movements. awesome picture.

chaosrocks, your alien reminds me of a chickenmutant. that poacher looks like a ragdoll.

badgeometry, nice composition on the scene. can tell the story straightaway. good shock expression on the poacher.

a la bapsi, disco poacher, lol.

tommoy, hahahahah. very adorable picture. alien looks really annoyed, and poacher doing the peace sign with his fingers = very funny.

hamorhage, great scene there. the poacher is hot <3 and her trapped alien caught her a hare, too. i like your use of simple colours here, very effective.

whyatt, GOBBLEGOBBLE.

peg, love your style. the alien looks so pitiful. i like that the focus is on the alien and its body language.

kingacer, your alien design is so freaky, i like it. it reminds me of cthulhu a bit.

hamsta, i cant really make out the shapes clearly in your picture. the atmosphere is good, i like the receding background.

thanks for the feedback lads, I decided to change some things to highlight the alien better, and I got to use a new brush I made this morning. It seems to suite grass and bushes.

sweet entries! I love looking at everybody's different aliens

clochette: your monster's so cute! I really love the pastel like colours and textures
prepsage: immense. I love the different take on the subject and as usual your colours look lush
chaosrocks: I dig that alien and I dig that he gets revenge. it'd be nice to see some more defined lines and shapes in this though
Whyatt Thrash: I lol'ed. reminds me of chomp chains in mario
hamorhage: this made me giggle. I love the lines of your sketch, though it feels as if maybe it could do with more of the blue highlights (particularly on the poacher and your alien) and darker shadows?
zaelzar: bahahah tongue trap! neat idea. try having more definite areas of light and shade though: there are places (such as the mouth) where your highlights spill into darker areas

took about half an hour. couldn't resist

I couldn't draw for a few days and then I wasn't soo worked up anymore.
anyway, here is my entry.

once upon a time, there was a lovely forest. the food was enough (well, in the reality everyone is food), the weather not too hard, many species were thriving.
only the Bad Awful Poacher and his evil tricks poisoned the life of the forest.

then one day Shakem Reh Ibryngh, the wandering alien sage emerged. he decided to teach the poacher a lesson.
one day later the Evil Poacher entered the forest and noone ever saw him again.

Shakem Reh Ibryngh made a pleased sigh and left.
the forest got back its balanced life - the human population was too big and nasty on the planet anyway.

marsc You have a very noticeable gap between your traditional and digital work, it's like a completely different person did the hummingbird dsg.

The aliens remind me of the girl in "the ring"

An interesting perspective, it takes a little while to find the trap (and I was looking for it) it also seems like the guy is unresolved under the torso.
The black background blocks everything in, and I think it would have been better open.

Hamorhage Cute idea, the girl is adorable and I like her pose and expression. Maybe a little too much cleavage ;)
The rabbit also has a cute expression, but it's body could use more definition, and maybe not have legs growing out of it's head? :teeth:
The alien is mean, as it should be, but also needs some work on not looking like it was de-boned.

I also like the background, but it's a little too heavy on the fog.
