Concept: chervus
The Chervi are small, rodent-like creatures which use their large front-teeth to shave off small pieces of bark from fallen trees, logs and any other timber which they happen to stumble across. The wood shavings are used as insulation for the burrows of these small creatures as they have very little fur to keep them warm during the winter months.

Concept: Pathogen Hog
Don't touch a pathogen hog, unless you want to be infected!
Believe it or not but these creatures are almost bald. The fur covering their bodies is actually a fungus that thrives on the Hog's fertile skin.
The fungus although unfomfortable to wear, it is a main part of the Hog's diet. You see as they live in small herds they are able feed off of each other. They scrape each others bodies with their crude teeth. The process isn't very pleasent but at least it helps them sleep at night.

Concept: The Wooly Back Barber Crab
This species of crab dwell in frigid climates along Arctic Coastlines. Because of its small size and inability to compete with other predators the crab must find sources of protein other than fish. The crab instead looks for sleeping mammals and shaves them with its sharp claws. It then uses enzymes to dissolve the fur into edible form to attain the protein it needs to survive and also stores leftovers on his back for future snacks. During mating season the males go on shaving frenzies to attract females who seek out the crab with the largest pile of hair on his back.

Concept: Shigeon

Shigeons are the only feathered animal that requires shaving. Originally commissioned for genetic engineering by Ms Peep, these creatures are a hybrid of pigeons and sheep. They possess characteristics of both animals, for example; the wool placing/length tends to come from the sheep. Their unique homing ability cannot, as with pigeons, be based mostly on landmarks as shigeons do not fly. They cannot naturally fly due to their weight and lack of wings, and tend not to use airplanes as they're very environmentally aware.

In 98% of cases of shigeons not returning it seems to be the case that they suspect they would be eaten. This heightened intelligence has lead some people to speculate that mouse genes may have also been spliced in (resulting in hyper intelligence), but there is no evidence for this. Either way, shigeons are not ideal meat creatures and better kept for feather production or as pets.

As they no long yeild wool or mutton, the shigeons could be viewed as a failed project, but they do meet the requirements first requested, and chances are that if you leave your shigeon alone it will come home (flitting its tail behind it).

"LAT. 40.30 N 69.53 W NEED IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE"

The solitary bonehead constantly rams the seabed with it's huge set of curved bone teeth, shaving off layers and layers of coral, seaweed, rock and debris in order to drive out any other species off it's territory.

Concept: Af Robin
When the moonlight hits the grounds of the Somalian velds the Af Robins love dance starts. Standing in the moonlight the sexually mature males try to impress the females with their courtship. While dancing they throw off glittering scales, which they produce, from their wings and feathers.

The mature male Af Robins have a bush-like accumulation of feathers on the top of their heads. After mating they use it as a nest for the eggs and the offspring. The female bird is in charge of bringing small insects for the chicks. Additionally the chicks eat from time to time a part of their fathers 'head-bush' (how biologists call the nest), which has eupeptic effects. When they grow up and have eaten up nearly the total nest, the chicks have no possibilities anymore to stay on their fathers head, that's also the time when they are fully fledged and they have to fly away and leave their parents. The offspring shaves their fathers "hair" while growing up. Nothing we wouldn't know from the human world.

The advantage of the male Af Robins weird appearance is that the father bird can always fly away with their offspring when there is danger near, which you can't with a conventional nest.

Rumors are that this little bird inspired musical artists of the 60s-70s to come up with the known hair cuts and cloths in that era. Did you know that Jimi Hendrix made a trip to Somalia, shortly before he became famous?

Concept: Shavesucker

These little creatures feed on the blood of mammals. To advance to the skin of even extreme hairy hosts, Shavesucker developed a special strategy. Softener foam, produced in a special gland, is sprayed on obstruct hair. Now the sharp hind legs can chop it off.

Concept: Cactus shaver

In the heat of the desert water is a precious resource and hard to come by. This little reptile however found their niche in the ecosystem. With a horn-like blade on their tail, they strip cactuses of their protection.

Concept: Razorcut

This creature eats only hair and the way it eats hair is very similar to a person shaving. It applies the gooey green substance on its belly to an area with hair and waits a couple minutes until it softens the skin/hair, then it uses its teeth to shave off the hair and eats it. The one getting shaved will not feel a thing. Does not eat human. Human only there for scale.

Artist: Michael Jaecks

Concept: Meebelac
The Meebelac gives birth to her tiny, sticky eggs in the nest-like thicket of fur on her belly and chest. After they grow and hatch, the spawn must wriggle their way down to her teats. They clear away the fur from her breasts with their small beaks in order to feed on her sweet milk.

Concept: Sand Fencer
This small creatures live on the desert planet Shme'etu IX. They are known on many planets because of their mating behavior. Males and females gather in small groups. Usually there are much more males than females. When they are ready males are starting to fight. But life on desert is hard enough and even small injuries could be deadly, so their fights are almost harmless. They use their sharp-ended tails not to wound, but instead of that they try to cut the opponents hair. After the whole day of fighting, squeaking, barking and running the male who still has untouched fur is the winner. Shaved ones have to go and the winner gets the females.

Sand Fencers are also used as fight animals on almost every sport arena on the planet Shme'etu IX.

Concept: Gorging branch cleaver
This rarely-met creature lives near the Ecuator, but it's mostly encountered in the Amazon. It is specialized for a single type of diet: trees. with it's clawed feet it climbs on the tallest tree them jumps mouth first on a tree. The plant passes trough it's hollow body, where bony cavities cut the leaves and branches off. After this is done, the creature simply clamps it's huge jaws and cuts the tree from it's base.

Concept: Foliculus

The Foliculus implants its egg into the centre of a coconut, where the young creature feeds on the milk until it is large enough to eat away the surrounding nut and emerge into the world. At this point it is perfectly evolved to mimic the hairy coconut and thus avoid the unwelcome attention of predators.

Unfortunately, the mother Foliculus is so overwhelmed with parental neurosis at the appearance of her hairy offspring that she immediately begins to groom the infant obsessively, removing large patches of fur and destroying the young creature's camouflage.........this species is severely endangered.

Concept: Kapulra
The Kapulra is an ancient species, older than the dinosaurs and never before seen by man. In their close knit and often violent colony on the undiscovered island of Gafosa, a youngster learns the hard way not to mess with the eldest of the group.
Instead of fighting to the death(which combined with ideal conditions for survival on the island has led to the continued success of these creatures), the goal is to remove the opponents mechanisms for luring and keeping females. And for the Kapulra, nothing is more revered by the ladies, than a glorious beard and mane.
With his razor sharp webbing, the elder of the two quickly teaches the younger sport the true meaning of humility, and a lesson he'll not soon forget for another hundred years, for this is how long it takes for the hair to grow back.

Your creature was a fish with fur. But there was no relation to the topic. They didn't shave, they weren't shaved, nothing shaved there...but we said "SHAVE IT BABY!!!!" ;)

Voted for JakkaS
Though the concept is not the strongest in my eyes, the creature design and execution are top-notch as always. Love the atmosphere, it's like a snapshot from an animal documentary on Discovery Channel. Also the subtle relation to male genitals in the creatures head design is adding a nice twist.

Kudos to best concepts in my eyes for:

Relic
Hilarious idea! I would pay for this creature to see it in action, especially for a back view where you can see the naked sheeps coming out, dumb and irritated :D

Timmy The Turtle
Love the idea. But it would have been even cooler, when the creature eats all the branches and leaves which fell down after its shaving action. A tree is quite big to be eaten up by this fella :)

I think both of you wasted big potential on the finishing stage. If you would work 1-2 hours more on the images you could make them really awesome. Currently only the idea, concept and base shapes can convince me ;)

Another fav scorge :
Buddy, i was torn between yours and Jakkas' entry. At the end JakkaS had the more convincing design for the same concept. I think the webbings were one point which made the creatures not working that good, i just can't imagine them working well with the concept. But nevertheless cool artwork ;)

My fancy include:

Fozzybar:That thing is lovable .I wish I can get my work as clean as yours.plus thanks for the comment, that helps me a lot.

Rizza: I don't know why,I just love that crab:).color's good.It reminds me of kappa(a river monster in Japanese myth).

Scorge:I agreed with Fozzybar,it's a tough choice between you and jakkas.Still it's very good to me.Exprcially details of the artwork.

Voted for Foz. Loved this one from the moment it reared its cute little head. And thanks for the compliments, means just as much as any vote to me.

Jakkas: Great representation of the concept. Your style and technique never cease to amaze me. As for the idea, you didn't really steal it of course.:teeth: And I have to admit you did a much better job of portraying it than I did. Kudos!
JoshK: Killer job on the head of this guy.
Timmy the Turtle: Looks really cool, just somewhat unfinished.
Small, but very good turnout for this one everyone. Hope to see you in the arctic.
