View Full Version : May I make some emoticons?

well, I've seen that emoticons are quite popular on the board, so I cant help but think that they are undeveloped for a board so talented. So I thought, I am very good at pixelart, specially expressions and animations, so what would you say if I made some high quality emoticons for the board? would you use em?

I figure I could use a little emotion practice, but I would only do the emoticons if they'd get used by you guys,

so what do you say? yes or no?

EDIT: I thought it'd be best to keep all the gifs up here, so I am going to just put them here from now on

OK, these are the emoticons, this is the original file which contained 4 of them

http://www.gazler.com/users/camus/emoticon.gif

they are in the respective order: Crying, Evil(bring it on), Ranting and Machinegun

I gave each one of them an individual file now, and improved their animation accordingly
http://www.gazler.com/users/camus/emomachinegun.gif this one was the first one I made, first thing I did was improving the face, I was planning on making a new face and use it in all the frames, but then I noticed that the face twitching fitted the shaking produced by the machinegun, and decided to give him a different expression every frame, I think it works pretty well, yet I feel like there's something wrong in the recoil effect.
I also remade some of the machinegun's fire frames to make things look spiffier, I think that worked pretty well too

http://www.gazler.com/users/camus/emoevil.gifthis one came second, I was on a roll with the whole twitching thing, so I gave this one some twitching too, only with this one I timed it to make it look like a nerveous tick...I think I may have gone overboard with the twitching on this one.

http://www.gazler.com/users/camus/emobitch.gifthe screaming one, this was how the timing was supposed to go all along, I extended the screaming intro and outro, by introducing only a new frame and using it twice (I had it thought up since I made the first version), I think it works pretty good

BTW, it is angry so it should be red, but the mouth is already red and I dont want to use more red, got any ideas for the color of this one?

the crying one didnt get a revamp because I dont like it, if I remake it at all I will start from scratch

I think it's a good idea ... if some of the current smileys are removed.
There are so many ... I think there are too many.

Are you:
open for requests or full of ideas?

I'd try to find out what the Mods/Admins think.
Somebody would have to add them ...

Signature, I am both...lol I have some ideas but I'd be open for requests....of course that's if any mod thinks this is a good idea, then we'd figure out what a good selection of emoticons would be.
Egerie, I would...but I have no host, or art I can upload...let me see if I can find something

Ok...found something, it's barely got anything to do with emoticons...it's just a fire practice gif...not too fancy, but here goes anyway

I'll keep looking C.C

I didnt find any samples, so I thought I'd make some:

they are in the respective order: Crying, Evil(bring it on), Ranting and Machinegun

Yeah they are VERY cool. Quality shouldn't be the problem.
Don't know if they capture the Conceptart feeling though ...

You could write a PM ... don't know who's the one to talk to though.

The rant guy looks a little as if he is chewing ;)
I thought the filesize is too big until I saw that it is one big file.
:emb: (I don't like this embarrassed emoticon btw.)

wow, some cool emoticons you got there! i'd use them

tell me, what do you use you use to make them, and what file format are they saved as? also, how do you not have a boarder? (eg, the fire one has a boader, but the rest dont)

keep it up, looking forward to seeing more

Everyonee:Thanks =) glad you like them

Signature: Concept art feeling? I never even considered that, I thought of em as just emoticons :p., do you have any ieas for how I could make the emoticons feel like they're conceptart?...making all emoticons sketchy? I really cant think of anything else...so give me all the ideas you got on that one :p

or did you just mean the fell of the forum?...if that's what you mean then feel free to suggest also.

The rant guy?...well yeah the timing of that one got a little screwed by the fact I only used one file C_C, but it should be ok if I actually make the emoticons :D

Cartoonfox, I used Graphicsgale ( http://www.tempest-j.com/gale/e/index.html), the file is in gif format, for the transparency I used a pretty common feature in gif creating programs for the background, and it is to make certain color be replaced by trasparent (in my case magenta). In graphicsgale this is configurated in the frame properties tag, most programs today have this feature, you'll probably find it in frame or layer properties, where you'll see some kind of button labeled "tranparent color", which when you click it will prompt a pallete for choosing the trasparent color you wish.

Amphex: LOL...yeah, dont worry ;p I was just being lazy

EDIT:I initially made this topic to have some kind of bond with this board...I have never gotten into making conceptart too seriously( I do have a bunch of concepts, but I'm way too intimidated to post em =/)so I thought I could use the emoticons as a bond to what I'm most experienced with which is sprites, and I thought offering something would be a nice intro.
But I'm getting the impression this wont ever get much attention, eitherway I am having a ball making these emoticons, so I will still make some =), so I thought that now that I already had the topic it wouldnt hurt to post progress, so here goes.

oh...whoa! just when I thought it'd never happen XD, ehm...I might edit these some more....so I dont know how adding emoticon works, but I hope it can be updated later on.

what would you think of replacing the current ones with mine?...is that a bit too egocentric of me?

well, alot of the ones currently used are 'classic'

people would get upset if they were deleted, espically if they weren't replaced with something similar

=) whatever, I'm glad you want to introduce them, it's not like there's a time limit anyway, so we can figure it out how to get them in later :p i'm just glad they're getting used :D

well....it's just an idea, but maybe we can make a bit of a more official topic for discussing this, so everyone has a say :)...if you think that's ok that is c.c;;
