Hi

Does anyone know any excellent art schools that have programs in pre-production for film in Canada.

I'm committed to working in production or concept design in the future, and I was wondering if any good schools exist that teach or train students for this field or career path?

I'm currently a 2nd year animation student at Seneca college and I love to design environments, characters, buildings, vehicles, etc...

Thanks

The only school I'm familiar with is Sheridan. They have a history of excellence, but I've heard lots of talk that the program is not what it used to be. I'm sure someone else can elaborate a bit more.

The only program I know of specific to Concept Art for Animation and Video Games is at Max the Mutt. It's a four year diploma program, but it sounds as if you'd get exemptions for course work done at Seneca (exemption is given based on portfolio). Take a look at the website (or the Max the Mutt thread) for more information.

thanks for the input guys.

Would anyone know any places for pre-production in Vancouver or other cities other than Toronto.

I hear the film and game industry is much larger in Vancouver than Toronto

Just check out the schools there and look into the curricculums they offer (
Van Arts, Vancouver Film School, Emily Carr). It's true that there are more companies on the west coast. However, any company will hire you if you have what they need.. recruiters visit to talk to the students about their company and pitch to the students to apply to them.

There is a shortage of people who have representational drawing and painting skills, plus an interest in and understanding of video games, and computer skills. If you have all of this and are a good team player, you'll be in demand.
