*Update: I put six more pages at the bottom. I haven't been able to work on this for a long time, but I never posted these. Hopefully I'll be able to find some time in the next few months to get back to it.

Here are some images for a project I'm working on about the discovery of a Nazi base beneath Antarctica. The story is kind of like "Lost" meets "The Matrix" meets the "X Files".

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm also curious as far as what kind of project "Hollow Earth" is. The pieces are brilliant. Great lighting and I love how big the Nazis are in the second picture. Great job!

very very nice! The ship in the red carpet scene kinda reminds me of the ones from Independence Day, though.

Based on the Mutant Shark, I believe this is for a video game that was called 'Interstellar Marines' or 'Project IM' in it's early development. I could be wrong but that looks like the exact same shark-thing that was in one of the original videos for the game before all news of it's development stopped entirely.

Here's the link to the videos: http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/787/787108/vids_1.html

Mr Joshua: Awesome, awesome work!

Thanks!

NeecHMonkey: I lol'ed when saw the shark thing at the end. You must have a good memory to remember such a short clip from a forgotten game video from over 2 years ago. But no, this has nothing to do with that game. Although I can't say the idea of a land shark is so unique. The idea behind it though was taking some of the predatory animals from the Antarctic region and combining them - so seal and shark mostly. Those crazy Nazis.

This is for a comic/graphic novel I'm pitching right now. Its kind of "Lost" meets "The Matrix" meets "X Files". :)

I'm really fascinated by the history around the supposed Nazi base in Antarctica - so much cool "what if" stuff.

I like ur stuff but....

actually these people in the first picture look like americans with nazi costumes.
no gestures,no body stiffness (?),american biz suit and elegant-lined vehicles.
i would like it more automatic, mechanic and much stiffer.watch some documentary about nazistuff to get what i mean.

(this should not mean that i will ever produce any pictures as proper as you did)

August 7th, 2008, 02:13 AM
I really like the character designs. the Environment concepts are good too, though the first one needs some attention. the 7 captives don't integrate with the picture. they look like they have been pasted in, cleaned and nothing more. And the guy in the foreground. I don't belive in his pose.
Having said that, I still think you got your main idea through with this image and that is what it's all about, the design.

KonnA
August 7th, 2008, 02:57 AM

ramiel
August 7th, 2008, 11:21 PM
Love the concept and execution, just a little nitpicking... On the 3D boat, when the shark-thing is attacking it on the 3rd page, the boxes on the deck should be thrown away, (like in the following pages) but they seems glued on the deck instead... :)
Except for this little thing it looks great (and the story seems intriguing)

Seriously great work I like the character and vehicle art the most, the story kinda reminds me of a piss poor book by matthew reilly, about a nazi base in Antarctica the sealife around there has all got massive and aggressive due to radiation leaking from a super stealth technology lab making truly invisible aircraft.

p.s. read piss poor as so bad it's good.

Spectacular work... really mesmerizing!

I´ve been a fan of your work since I first checked your website, a few years ago. I´m always delighted with its updates. Your suits and character concepts are among the best I´ve ever seen! I´m really, really speechless tough, with the comic book story... it´s truly cinematographic... the takes, the lighting, the narrative... and the "land shark" creature is fantastic!!!
Keep the excellent work, Josh!

August 12th, 2008, 11:27 AM
Thanks all. I'm definitely trying for a cinematic feel. I'll see about posting more pages.

AhChu: Yeah I use quite a few 3d elements and paint over them. Whatever will help to get things done quickly.

ramiel: I actually thought about this some when I was doing that part. I figured the boxes would have some fastener elements that would hold them down since its on a boat but not be strong enough to hold them after some threshold when it tips over. - either way, hopefully it doesn't distract too much from whats going on. :)

young paddy1: Sounds like a book I'd be interested in. I'll check it out.

Nice beginning, I've always loved the myths of Nazis having hid after WWII with advanced technology. Just wondering if they are going to have that base on the moon with flying saucers and what aliens are going to be involved, because if you're a fan of the x-files then everything involves aliens.

can you share some more info about the project. is it going to be a published comic book? is it going to be a free self-promotional piece? is it going to have
multiple volumes/issues ? stuff like thaat..

My personal favorite here is the way you have used the large spot lights, really movie-like..

mehran: I don't really know exactly what its going to be yet. This is a side project I'm doing just cause its a story I'd like to tell and I think its fun. I'm thinking it will be 6 issue series and then a trade, but maybe it will just be a graphic novel.
