I just finished high school and I'll be attending college for the first time this Fall. My career goal is to work in 3D Animation and Visual Effects. Currently, I plan to first complete my General Education at City College(CCSF) and then transfer into Academy of Art University(AAU). It is already August 1st and City College begins on the 18th of this month so time is running out for me.
I saw my counselor today to talk about choosing classes, but I did not have the GE Requirements List from AAU since I plan to transfer, so it was kind of a problem. I'm going to be emailing AAU to ask for a list of their GE Requirements and drop in for another counseling appointment this Monday at CCSF.
Because I still haven't registered for any classes yet, both the English and Math classes I'm suppose to take this Fall has been filled. My counselor told me that I am going to have to see the professors of those two classes on the first day of school to see if I can get in.
That's just what's going on for now. I made this thread in an attempt to acquire some helpful information from this community because I am really confused. So, this is what I'm going to do in the next couple of days; E-mail AAU and get a list of their GE Requirements >> Go back to CCSF to see a counselor for choosing classes.
The problem is, what kind of classes should I take?
What kind of art foundation classes should I take?
What if I don't get my English and Math classes?
Should I get a part-time job for experience and networking during school? I'm going to be a Full-time student(12 units+).
I also want to study Japanese language. The two things I'm really focusing on is Art and Japanese.
Can you guys tell me what I should do and help me plan this all out? I want get a well paying job as a 3D artist right away once I completely finish school. Can you guys explain to me how I can achieve this goal?

I'm in a similar situation, except that I'm attending AAU this year and taking community college classes on the side.
So here's (http://www.academyart.edu/animation-school/outline.html?AP=AA-ANM&ASP=AA-ANMVDE) the degree outline for your major. You will need to specify exactly which concentration within the Animation/Visual Effects Major you're taking for the outline to show.
Here's (http://www.academyart.edu/admissions/transfer.html) a list of community colleges and transferable classes. Scroll down to the bottom half to specify which college. I've already done this for the college you specified: click here (http://www.academyart.edu/assets/pdf/transfer_guides/CITY_COLLEGE_OF_SAN_FRANCISCO_UPDATE.pdf) to see what courses can transfer from CCSF.
Keep in mind that you probably only want to clear up the Liberal Art requirements because that allows you to take more AAU classes that you're actually interested in (visual development classes, illustration classes, etc.).
My suggestion is to get in contact with an admission representative at AAU. They're really helpful. My admission officer's name is China Hutchins, and you can probably email her with your questions: chutchins@academyart.edu
Best of luck!

Be aware that AAU will not accept any credits earned after you start taking classes at AAU.
Also they do not offer a Japanese language course.

Sorry if I'm being stupid, but do I choose from the AA or BFA section?

So, you're saying that if I fulfill all General Education requirements needed for an AA degree at AAU, when I transfer, I won't have to spend time on (what?), instead I can take more elective courses that I'm interested in? But I still don't understand, would I be acquiring my AA degree at CCSF or AAU?? Or do I have to fulfill both school's GE requirements? I'm so dumb.. ='(

I've applied for AAU already, but just recently decided not to attend due to financial problems. I'll email my admission's rep about some things too.
Thanks a bunch, but could you please answer my last few questions thank you

Well, this is the email I sent to Lucy Stearns, but I'm also posting it here so that you guys can help me answer the questions as well, since I guess it's better to get information from different people. I also included several new questions. I feel kind of ashamed..really.
Hello Lucy,
This is Joseph Lau, you were assigned to me as my Admissions Representative, but I've decided not to attend AAU this upcoming Fall. I will be attending City College of San Francisco to fulfill my General Education, but I have a lot of questions and concerns about this matter because I am highly unfamiliar with colleges.
My career goal is to work in 3D Animation and Visual Effects and I want to major in 3D Modeling/Animation. I would like to request a complete list of the General Education Requirements for AAU that will be transferable from CCSF. Also, I would like to request a plan or outline that I can follow, so that I will be able to achieve my education goals smoothly.
I don't know whether or not CCSF has all the courses required to transfer into AAU. Do I only fulfill AAU's GE requirements or do I have to complete both school's GE requirements. What if completing AAU's GE requirements isn't enough to graduate at CCSF OR isn't enough to get my AA degre? How does that work? Does graduating at CCSF automatically mean I get an AA degree? What if I don't get an AA degree(or graduate?) at CCSF, do I just leave and transfer straight into AAU and automatically get an AA degree?
My mind is so confused...please answer all of my questions in detail, thank you so much! (Reply as soon as possible)

Are you going for the four year program? then its BFA.
So this is the whole list of the General Education requirements I need to fulfill in order to transfer all credits to AAU?
No, its just a list of all the classes that are transferable. You can pick whichever courses you want to take. Certain classes can only be taken in AAU. You can only transfer a maximum of 30 units in Liberal Arts. Although it does say that "Department Directors may transfer additional units based on portfolio review. These units do not count towards the 30 unit maximum mentioned above. However, a maximum of 66 units may be transferred towards the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree." Not entirely sure what that means, so we should probably seek clarification with an admissions officer on that last part.
If you transfer the credits for the transferable liberal arts classes from CCSF to AAU, then you don't have to take those same classes you transferred at AAU (you must get a "C" or better for those class for them to count though). You should check the link to the transferable classes from your college that I sent you earlier Once you transfer, you complete your degree at AAU, and you should get the degree from AAU.
Hope I'm not wrong anywhere. :)
