hey, thanks for stopping by... here are my sketches that I do in my free time. I like to draw because it's fun and fills my holes in the day, and to me, it works as a hobby. :)

I created this sketchbook just for the purpose of improving and sharing my stuff with the site. Hope you like them, feedback would really helpful.

Updates:

So, this morning I grabbed a National Geographic magazine, read some articles, looked at pictures, and decided to practice sketching the pictures that caught my attention, so after some time, i got them to the paper and decided to load them up. I'd love to continue working on them, cause I had some fun practicing. It got my day going early. :)

The last one was done last night,

The outline of a creature that i'd like to finish, not too keen on the design, but i'm happy with it for now.

Very nice organinc lines, i like those creatures too. You would get better if you did a couple of value scales from white to black, that way you will have an easier time to put the values on your drawings, also, what is in light is different from what is in shadow, meaning that they dont share values. www.fineart.sk read andrew loomis book called "succesfull drawing", in there he explains it much better.

Good luck.

Nice start. You have good ideas but you need to sharpen your skills in creature anatomy and anatomy in general. I like your last creature more than the others.
To get help in creature anatomy etc. you can go to the mentor threads and find mike corriero thread.
Check those http://conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=149
Keep up :D

Christian223: Thanks for feedback. I'm glad the creatures are of your taste. But buying decent art books is no easy task where I live. I'll probably order it through internet :P. Thanks.

kingkostas: Thanks. Yes, I really need to sharpen my skills, no doubt about that. Anyway, I've never checked out Mike Corriero's thread Here in CA. Though i've seen some of his videos on youtube. Thanks for the link, that guy is amazing!.

Anyway, last night I did some training in dinosaur heads. And shabby progress in my "insect like" creature.

I like them.If you are into creature that much it will be good to understand the basic shapes of them. You do very well keep up.

Just to clarify, in www.fineart.sk you can download andrew loomis books and others for FREE, they are the old versions of the books, still awesome, but the copyright is very old now so its legal.

kingkostas: Thanks again, took your advice and practiced shapes for this creature. Got a little carried away and finished the outline.

Christian223: Oh, my bad. I didn't notice that part of the site. I will download them. Thanks for the heads-up. ;)

For this creature I used reference and started out with the structure and then filled it up with shapes. It's too big to fit in the scanner so it cut out the toes of the creature.

And I may update later today.

Brun: Thanks. I'm glad you like my creatures. You could be right, maybe live drawings is one of the many things that I need. I'll do it when I get a chance ;)

And I slowly keep working on my creature :)

Nice dinosaur.Something is wrong in the rear legs. The fronts are better. You show progression and i also like the creature you made.
Keep up.Dont use the shape structure for small details but just for the basic parts.
Also a life studie will be good :D

see ya

I finally have the concept ready for my creature :)

Concept: The tunnel lurker lives in the darkest places it can find. It has developed a taste for human engineered tunnels and dark places; but also for human taste. It hides in the elevator shafts feeding of mice and the occasional humans.

This creature has caused numerous accidents in building's infrastructure and mysterious yowls coming from the elevator, then the sudden blood showers coming from the top of the lift.

And then an example of how it attacks. The inking is shameful and anatomy is off, but is at least understandable. :\

I need more practice with faces so I did 2 sketches. And a WIP with a military ship. It's not the final design, so there will be others. :)

Great creativity with the creatures. I will have to agree with others though, getting a core foundation of anatomy will help you improve so much. Keep at it!

I definitely think you're off to a good start - it looks like you've dabbled in most areas so far, but from what I can tell, you're really into creatures. Run with that.

A friend of mine from college wanted to be a sculptor (particularly creature design), but my art school really didn't have anything for him. He spent most of his time doing independant studies and when he graduated, nobody could even come close to the level of his work. By the end, he was completing amazing sculptures during 15-minute lifedrawing studies.

Bang it til it happens and some of the things that aren't there for you now will begin to happen.

Hadesdream: Thanks, i'll definitely keep practicing.

kinjura: wow, thanks for the tip, it's really inspiring. I wish your friend best of luck, and to you. ;)

Well, I broke a commitment with myself to post daily. I was low on inspiration and as soon as I got to the paper, i had to forcefully go to someone's office to do some stuff for 2 days. But i'm back and did 2 sketches last night.

So, i followed your tips and I could finally get to draw from real objects or living organisms. So I sketched my baby turtle while it was standing still in it's rock.

And strangely (since I have 2 turtles) the other one was sitting at the bottom of the tank looking at the paper and pencil as I sketched away.

Isn't that strange?.

Anyway, here they are.

Hey CA, i'm glad to be back to the sketchbooks. I was off in summer vacation so today is my first weekend to update. I didn't draw as much as I had planned, in fact i'm disappointed because I lost practice and enthusiasm to illustrate. But i'm back and ready :)

1. Some insect i picked up.
2.W.I.P of a creature i'm looking forward to completing.
3.Random
4.Chevrolet Volt (quick sketch)
5.Quick sketch of a fish.

Great to see you back drawing, dont forget to keep your motivation up since motivation is so important to keep enjoying drawing and getting better, so allways do an effort to motivate yourself. Dont forget andrew loomis book called "Succesfull drawing" it will help you a lot to study it, its here for free www.fineart.sk, keep it up!. :anime:

Joce: thanks, i will ;)

Christian223: Ha! ha! don't worry I haven't forgotten Andrew Loomis's book, i've checked it out and i'll download it soon :)

Alright, finally another weekend to update, i'll definitely be up and drawing. But for now I only have some progress on my new creature. It's a little dirty but I loved working on it.

And maybe i'll update some more tonight... but i'll just sit on the couch and watch TV. :)

Wow, 2 weeks since my last update, hope it doesn't turn in to a habit. :P

Anyway, these last days inspiration wasn't ringing on the doorbell, so I decided to move on from creatures to actually practicing human anatomy. My notion of human anatomy is really basic and usually proportions are a problem, but
I gave it a try using a book that I have.

Quick drawing that didn't come out like I expected, the concept needs a little work and some deep thinking of what it does or what it is.

To me it's the outcome of an extraterrestrial infection that transforms the body. The concept is very unoriginal but I tried to make the design as creative as I could :)

Hmmm... lets see here:

The first one was inspired by an old boating magazine I found, the second one is random. Both of them are WIPs.

Hi heavyflash,

I think you have some really creative ideas for creatures and I personally like creatures concepts very much but you should study a little more anatomy to make them look greater and more realistic.

For example your hand:
The last finger on the left side looks out of place and it looks strange.

Wow, long time since an update. I've been packed with high value school exams. Now since my country is enduring elections they gave us a 6 DAY WEEKEND!. Yeah seriously...

any way here's a sketch:

Late reply to Warforce17: Thanks for taking your time to visit my book. Yeah, I definitely need more practice with my creatures, i'm usually lurking in google for animal pictures as reference.

I really want to get good at drawing cars, so i began a personal project to draw as many generic cars as possible, hoping to achieve the correct perspective of the vehicles. I MUST! post at least 2 more today, i have one almost ready, i'll need to draw the second one.

January 18th, 2009, 10:25 AM
Yep, here's number 2:

Nice sketchbook so far. I especially like the creatures (mostly because I'm an animal person xD), but the cars interest me too. I think some perspective studies of squares would help out some when drawing cars. I barely started studying perspective myself, but so far it's helping me see things in a new light.

heavyflash

Talo: Thanks for the tip, perspective studies would really help me. I use pictures for reference to help me get the perspective right, but I still need lots of practice.
