awwww! never thought id say that to an ork.

Thats great man, one thing though, the eyes look a little cartoonish/not dirtied up enough compared to the rest of the composition so they dont blend in very well. He also looks a wee bit crosseyed, dunno if thats intentional though.

other than that is great. I love the texture and the character.

Character and setting are great. I wish the meat was skewered on the stick instead of just hanging over it. It would be a nice little bit of implied violence to play up the cute/gruesome thing you've got going.

I adjusted the lighting a little bit. I was working on a
very dark monitor so that the final image was too bright.
I think it's much better now.

The fire is way too simplified for the rest of it IMO. Get some ref shots of campfires and go from there, id say.

Verry cool though! :D

Love the orc, he's cute as the dickens. I'd like to see more shadow and colors in the fire though.

Thnx for your comments.

The fire....yeah I had to overpaint the fire again and again cause it didn't look right. Then I took a campfire reference but still it was very difficult for me to paint the fire realistic. Next time I'll try to do it better!

like I told you in person, this is one of your best lightings.
Good to see you improve 2D and 3D equally. Keep it up;)

this is cute and "accurately" rendered, but don't use photos that obviously in your digital work, it's too apparent and takes away from the strength of the piece....

The colours and tones add alot of ambience to the whole pic, and the textures they just sky rocket the look, but what really makes it look good is the face and form they are absolutely cool.

Thnx guys!

JUDGEmental:
This is the first times I used photo textures. Of course I had to overpaint the textures to make them fit with the light. I will post some WIP steps later cause I think these textures makes the picture a lot better than without.

Hi again!
Here are the WIP steps

1. Rough sketch of the basic colors and composition

http://www.area-56.de/pics/cgtalk/little_ork_wip_01.jpg

2. Made the whole picture darker and added more contrast
and detail.

http://www.area-56.de/pics/cgtalk/little_ork_wip_02.jpg

3. This is the texture layer. (mode overlay). Created
textures from photomaterial.

http://www.area-56.de/pics/cgtalk/little_ork_wip_03.jpg

4. Cleaned up the Color layer. Added more detail like cavepaintings, shadows, rocks etc. Overpainted the texture so that it fits with the light.

5. Put all layers together. Adjusted the color mood.
Finished!

That's really great! Thanks for showing the progress, too!

yeah, certain parts dont fit in with the rest, like the fire looks 2-d when the rest is 3-d... the face is a little too sharp and the cross eyes bug me too cuz it doesnt look like he's looking at what he's cooking.. other than that its good stuff

thnx guys

Main Loop:
Yeah the fire....first I was satisfied with it but now everytime I look at it I see the 2D thing....Next time I'll try to do it better.

About the cross eyed thing. He is actually not exactly looking at his food. He is kind of dreaming. I'm sure you know the feeling when you just look at the campfire and you are just satisfied with the moment, waiting for your food. The eyes aren't focusing anything. This is what I wanted to show in that little Orc.

Goro, I've got a question for you... when you lay down your base colors what kind of brush do you use, and what are the settings for it? I'm just curious.

Hi Simplistics:
I use the default hard edge brush (without shape jitter) but with opacity driven by pen pressure.
