Let me start with this…This is my version of real life style Mr. Freeze. I know… I know… he looks a bit like cobra commander. But I think the real Mr. Freeze wouldn’t be like a man in an iron suit, which I think that is very cool too. But in real world, he might be something like this. He just needs a mask and special clothes that keep him cool. If there’s going to be another batman movie; I really want to see him with The Mad Hatter. These 2 are really right for each other. The mad hatter could be the one who makes his suit and mask. He can also help Mr. Freeze and be the master mind behind the operations.

Heres my final. I went for MrFreeze, Poison Ivy and the sexiest villian in history, Catwoman.
And if anyones interested, I thought I'd attach the fullres version too.
http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/7333/darkknightvilliansfullip1.jpg
I wrote some stuff for em too:
Poison Ivy
Pamela Lillian Isley was a promising student studying plant biology at University, during which time she became politically radicalised into an extreme environmental activist movement. The further she fell into the philosophies of the group, the more she believed that humans were simply a virus on mother nature. This led her to her calling: to systematically and via any means neccessary, bring down the human population. She became a sole terrorist and uses nature's own poisonous spores to calmly and cleanly wipe out the masses.
Mr Freeze
Victor Fries worked for the US goverment's experimental sciences division developing military technologies. His personal and most praised work was his research into land sub-temperature warfare which cooled the blood of a soldier whilst maintaining superior performance. However whilst on the prototype mission in Siberia, Fries was betrayed by his closest colleagues who stole his formula to be sold to the Russian military. They left him for dead. In a last ditch effort to survive, he took every last drop of the formula he could. It lowered his body temperature beyond freezing. Any warmth would kill him. He scavenged for parts, built an aluminium heatsink, and grafted it onto his chest whos function was to suck heat straight out of his heart. He remains twisted, and desires nothing but destruction of the powers that did this to him.
Catwoman
Selina Kyle was one of the worlds most popular haute couture models who was seen on Bruce Wayne's arm on many occasions. She loved the high life and all the perks that came with it. However on one night, Selina was harrassed by hundreds of paprazzi hoping to get a shot of her drunk whilst leaving her favourite bar. Disorentated, Selina ran as fast as she could away from the crazed photographers, straight into arms of Victor Zsazs. She fought as hard as she could, but Zsazs' knife cut her face many times. Her bodyguards found her and the coward Zsazs got away before he had the chance to kill her. Her life however, was ruined. Facially scarred, she lost everything. Desperate for her lost riches, she became a theif of Gotham's most prized possessions.

My final.
Anarky - A sixteen year old boy from a very affluent home in Gotham. He was always known as a genius, always had the right answer, studied philosophy, and was a whiz with computers. His best friend lived next door, and they had grown up together. One day, his friend was killed by a drunken police officer. The officer got away with it, sewing the first seeds of anarchy in the boy's heart. He was never the same after that, going out way after curfew, getting piercings, tatoos. Soon, Batman came to Gotham and the boy gobbled up any information on the dark knight. There came a time, when the police started hunting batman. That's when Anarky was born. He roamed the streets in his homemade costume, killing those he deemed a menace to society. He hacked computers, destroying government files and finding information from the GCPD.
Catwoman- daughter of old gotham society. Her parents were killed by the Falcone crime family after her father's gambling puts them into debt to the family. Selina Kyle is sent to relatives in Paris. They end up not really wanting her and manage to get her into a boarding school. There, Selina meets up with a group of thieves, whom she idolizes, thinking all will be better if she could just get as much money as her parents once had. She pours her whole soul into this endeaver, becoming the world's most sought after thief. This eventually brings her to the attention of Anarky, who wishes to hire her to get some things he desperately needs to further his goals. Hearing tales of the dark knight, and being an ever curious girl, she heads to Gotham, ready to test this new hero out.

The Riddler, Catwoman, and Bane - redesigned
I see The Riddler as a villain that fights Batman with his mind so he doesn't have to be a muscle bound guy or any sort of psychopathic badass. I see him as a mysterious guy, with clean cut clothing and features. I see Matthew Goode playing the role, I think he has the right look and the british accent would definitely favor the whole well-read-intelligent-criminal thing.
I see Catwoman as a villain that poses as a successful wealthy woman by day, and a ruthless, agile catburglar by night. Since she is rich, like Bruce Wayne, she would develop a similar suit to the one Batman has. It is a stealthy high tech outfit that allows her to break into almost any place worth breaking into. I see Megan Fox playing this sexy villain.
I see Bane as a victim of a military experiment gone wrong. Wayne Enterprises has been developing this concept for the super soldier based on experiments conducted by Dr. Pamela Isley. Unfortunately due to the history of violence that his particular soldier has, it has caused terrible side effects by granting him with super human strength and psychotic behavior. I see a wrestler in this role, maybe someone like Goldberg or Batista.
I chose these three villains because I wanted characters that challenged Batman's mind, body, and soul.

Lynns took up arson as a hobby, but it soon turned to an obsession; he believes he can see visions in the flames. Inspired by actual fireflies, he built a suit and became a professional arsonist.

OK, I went and made her work at a taxidermy, assisting a cruel and abusive old man that owned the store. She always respected and admired the big cats that came in for repairs, touch ups and so on ("So strong... even in death")... some where along the story the old man gets a bit too abusive and ends up killing her, or so he thought and flees. She comes too and in a daze, she stairs at on of the big cats (Panther) and something inside her snapped, and she pulls over the stuffed cat, which comes to a crashing fall. One of its paws break off and slide to her feet, she grabs the Panther's paw and places it over her hand and smiles... we now see whats left of the stuffed panther, all its fur has been removed... a long scratch line leads to the opened window...... DUN DUN DUUUN!

Well, I could fret and fuss about the little details, but I'm really quite happy with where this is right now, so I'm posting it as is and moving on. I noticed that, quite by accident, I'd done a bit of a Two-Face homage on the Ventriloquist's face. To see what I mean, put a thumb over one half of his face, then the other. And if you're wondering, there's no hidden editorial significance to the red, white and blue theme of his clothes; I just happened to like how those colors interacted.
Hope you like it!
Edit 08/04: Darkened the shadows and resaturated the colors a little. Now I'm really finished.

Stricken from an early age with an advanced form of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, Waylon Jones grew up as an involuntary sideshow performer in a traveling circus. His skin discolored and covered in scaly bumps, he filed down his teeth to points and became the strongman known as the Killer Croc. After many years of foul treatment and degradation by the circus' owner, Waylon lashed out and murdered him in a fit of rage as their caravan traveled just outside of Gotham City. After weeks of hiding in the forests and swamps surrounding the city, he eventually sought refuge in a drainage tunnel that led him into the heart of Gotham's sewers.

Arnold Wesker married into the affluent Falcone family of crime. The German-descended Gothamite was not treated with the utmost of warmth by his new in-laws though, leaving Arnold's dreams of joining the likes of Capone and the Roman in the dust. Whilst eavesdropping on as many of the mafiosos conversations as possible, Arnold took to entertaining the young kids at important Family gatherings, primarily via his gifted puppetry.
Then everything changed. The Bat showed his face in Gotham, and before long, there was a power vacuum, and someone needed to fill it. Would it be poor, forgotten Arnold Wesker with all his eavesdropped knowledge of how organized crime is meant to be run? No. Something snapped in Arnold Wesker about the same time that the Roman was getting himself tied to a searchlight on top of police HQ, and all his repressed dreams of greatness took on a life of their own in the form of Scarface, the new face of the Falcone and Maroni criminal families.

OK here we are, all done. My first CHOW for a while. I hope its good enough to get to the poll. There are so many talented digital painters here that make me feel inadequate.
The Story: Jervis Tetch was teased as a child. He was a late bloomer and when he did start growing, some parts grew more than others, leaving him even more an outcast. Lost and alone, Jervis turned to the stories and rhymes of Lewis Carroll. He idolized Carroll and became obsessed with his work. He memorized the entire works.
During his teen years, he attempted to date girls in his peer group, but was constantly rejected. Over time, he came to believe that he needed to meet someone like Alice, someone innocent and young. After he finished college, he was working at a technology company as a research scientist when he met a young, blond girl on the bus named "Alice". He bonded with her, quoting Lewis Carroll to her, and ultimatly desired her. One day, she agreed to come with him. He attempted to make love to her but she rejected him as well. He finally raped and killed her. Her body was found months later.
Since then, he has begun stalking any young, blond girl name Alice he can find, befriend them, and attempt to seduce him. When they turn down his sexual advances, he rapes and kills them, deeming them "fake" Alice's. He is determined to find a "TRUE" Alice.
He has converted his apartment into a Wonderland, choosing his furniture carefully, buying stuffed animals and as many posters of illustrations as he can. He is the worst type of fan boy. His "Mad Hatter" costume was custom made for him by his mother, believing it to be a Halloween costume. He uses it to allow himself to fully enter into his delusion.

Tried not to make there costumes too outlandish in keeping with the style of the other two movies

"Zeiss has cybernetically accelerated reflexes and his eyes and optic nerves have been altered to maximize his abilities. To this end, he wears a pair of high-tech goggles, which are wired directly to his frontal lobe. The goggles allow him to record and analyze with great detail the movements and tactics of the enemies he faces and to anticipate or emulate those tactics to a degree. This system, combined with his extensive martial-arts training, makes him a formidable hand-to-hand combatant."

This character came about by combining Talia Al Ghul, and The Riddler, yes it's a female Riddler. Basically I was thinking that she's obsessed with Batman, is in awe of him and "in love with him", yet she doubts whether he really lives up to his myth, so she devises various crimes in order to test him and determine his worthyness of her love. She is willing to kill him, his death proving his unworthyness, however each time her plans are thwarted she falls in love with him all over again, until she devises her next test.

My Catwoman is kind of a criminal reflection of Batman. She has her own gadgets. Her claws are not only sharp, but electrified and able to short out her opponents electronics and stun them. So, she can cut and cook at the same time. She has night and thermal vision as well as a few nasty surprises on her utility belt. Her whip is still a traditional weapon, but very effective in scaling structures and reaching out and touching people.

Here's my entry.. Thanks to Christopher Nolan and gang for making such a kick ass movie.. I wanted to put some chicago architecture in here somehow, but for the sake of time i used this Arkham asylum scene.. there were some amazing images of old tunnels used for freight transfer that i though were perfect for a backdrop.. but o well. I felt that harley quinn would have been driven to madness by the joker, much as two face was in the movie (i would warn spoilers but come on.. you've seen it by now :D). I figured he would have destroyed her beauty, but with a vertical cut.. maybe a sexual undertone to that one... hmmm. She would of course want others to be as beautiful as she is... hence the blade.. and why so serious after all?

I didn't vote for very many because I don't think too many got what the Chris Nolan's films are about. Characters like Mr. Freeze, Clayface and Man-Bat would certainly not work in these films without major modifications to back story, origins and powers. Even the Mad Hatter, which I did, had to be changed. In the comics, the pedophiliac edge is only hinted at, but his major gimmick is the use of mind control...something that is just a bit too silly for Nolan's films. The only exception I made was to Kreator's Azreal as it is just a wonderfully rendered image.
After that , I considered who was truest to the character, both in design and personality, and then just the quality of the image.

It was a really fun topic! I didnt had a lot of time so I had to rush it :(
Ok I dont know if I will vote...because there is too much good concepts, and I dont want to vote for 15 entries hehe. It's really hard to choose... good job everyone.
I will think about it, and try to vote 1 time tonight haha

I got a little bit carried away with the voting. But, there were a lot of good enteries that hit the brief nicely. There were others though that were just too theatrical I think. I know how hard that was to keep it realistic. Hard round, and good job everyone!

Great work everybody! Lots of awesome stuff. It was really fun to take a character as outlandish as Killer Croc and ground him in reality (circus strongman, skin condition, filed teeth). A lot of incredible images in here.

My favorite villian in Batman of all time is Catwoman. I voted for none of these. Sadly, only a few were really original. I have a book by DC Comics that's called "The Complete Guide To Catwoman" and most of the concepts presented here have already been done by DC.
I ended up voting for TB Elad's piece. I definitely enjoy the concept of Ivy and Harley the best this round.
You all did astounding jobs though. ^ ^

Voted Artina. Thought the choice of characters was very clever "mind, body, and soul", and their designs clearly expressed those ideas. I also thought the inclusion of potential actors was a nice touch.

Voted for:
Jason Snair - a really good one, he looks unusual and I think he would fit into the movie looking like this
Shotgun Baby - because he looks really evil, just the way he should look like
stoat - also because he's pretty unusual looking and I can actually see the story behind this guy
Wiggers - awesome rendering and a great looking character
Poshspice - because you did my favorite of your sketches, and because... ummm... I wanna be you when I grow up heh :asspat:

So many beautiful entries this round! Unfortunately, I think a lot missed the mark of sticking to the realism of The Dark Knight-but it was a difficult task to be sure. I personally settled for Anarky since the character was easier to translate into Nolan's movie.
Votes went to
Shivaree-Great rendering and interpretation. There's some anatomy that seems a bit off, and he has a huge package. But there's a great gestural quality to the painting that lends to the character well.
Lukavi-Mostly for Harley's interpretation. Great way to show it without the obvious violence.
and
Poshspice- You destroyed this round! Everything's pretty much on point with this one. I only wish Harley's boot was resting on his chin or something rather than floating.

Shoot. I don't remember who I voted for. I do know I promised myself I'd keep it to three (I always promise myself that) and I did manage to keep it to four (which is the smallest number I've ever voted for, I think).
Jason Snair, I know you were one. Your Riddler cut an elegant figure. I remember thinking yours satisfied the brief especially well (you could walk by that guy in the street, though you'd probably think the derby a little odd) and was a nice piece of painting, too.
Timmy, I know you were one, too. There was something cold and somehow wistful in your rendering of Mr Freeze.
Ummm...after that, there were so many I THOUGHT about voting for :)

So I am just going to come out and just ask for critiques. I would really love some feedback on what worked and what didn't. I wont have time to do Icarus (and probably the next couple) but I would love something to think about in the meantime.
I notice some issues looking at this again of course. I think it might have worked better with a background and I wish I had done a better job of making Hatter seem to loom out of no where (just to add creepiness, not out of some sort of mystical aspect).
So anyone who can/wants to give me some feedback, I would be most appreciative.

Rogzilla- I don't think this is a matter of technical skill- you're obviously talented- or whether or not a background is in order. Focus on the character, and the competition's prompt.
The popped collar, enormous bow tie, and signature hat are all traits of the Hatter, but they're so over-the-top that the character becomes a caricature. Think subtlety, practicality- shy away from referencing existing designs of the Hatter, and instead research character actors like, say, Steve Buscemi, whose expressions could serve as a real-world alternative to the exaggerated features of the villain. If available, look through some images of gentlemen in waistcoats and top hats to inspire a costume that matches the subtle designs of the villains visited thus far in the Nolan films.

Sway West-
Excellent. This is exactly what I needed to hear cause it is things I don't always think about. I get excited about the concept and lost in my own thoughts. Danke! I do also want to get my technical skill up as well. I would love to be able to digitally paint like Posh or some of these others. Its just an amazing look that I know grabs attention like no bodies business.

This was a hard one, because there are a lot of great designs and renderings, but only a few that really fit the mood of "Batman Begins"/"Dark Knight", imo.
I voted for Wiltekirra, Prepsage, and 5Waywest - All three combined quality rendering and expressive characters with a decidedly gritty, pseudo-realistic "Dark Knight" feel. Honorable mentions to Poshspice, Lukavi, ye_oldskool, Artina, and Davi - great designs that didn't quite fit the mood.
