Dreaming tree go bye bye! :(
So, are you planning a series of these then? I really liked the final color on the first one. This one looks a little too much like cloth though...although it does explain the ropes, hehe. But maybe that's the effect you were going for?
I still love it.

Cool!
... it's very confusing finding the figure in this, though... Initially, I saw a figure, but it was facing the opposite direction! After a while, I realized that there wasn't a figure at all... Only to finally discover the actual figure! And now that I know where she is... I still think she's confusing looking.
Incredible effect overall, though! Love the leaves and the spider's web :D
Figure.
... (i just had to say it again)

yes...its supposed to look like cloth...its kinda of a tree and kind of a figure and kinda not. :) I like the idea of the ripped cloth and the leaves and branches all in movement...kinda mummy like.
There's a ll this crazy stuff going on in my life...I'm moving, starting a new job, all my friends moving away, moving in with my girlfriend, just signed with a new rep., writing content for upcoming books...shall I go on??
Think of it this way: she represents..change, like shedding of an old skin, her skin being dead things, old things, things she evolved out of...and she kinda represents a season of things dying off...thus the fall (leaves, branches. Its fall in peak season where I live now...so the leaves were fresh in my mind.
Yes I have another version of this series half done...I'll post it soon. Kinda of trees in different emotions. I'm so deep :)

Man! This one is SO beautiful, pstraub! And although you say there's a figure in this one, too... I can't find it!
I hope you're able to relax soon! Sure sounds like a lotta change all at once.

thanks william! response has been so strong on the "dreaming tree" a gallery has picked the image up and is running some prints of it.
The figure is much more subtle...its really more the tree taking on a figurative look...the branch on the top right ...an arm...I wanted the tree to be "figurative."

I like both of these a lot, much more than the last piece you posted (evening light). That seemed very flat and unfocused compared to your other work, but these, while obviously moving in a different direction, are really interesting.
Congratulations on the changes in your life, especially if they are inspiring work like this. Who are you signing with?

yeh....that piece."evening light"...was an old piece that I decided to use a project for an upcoming book I'm working on. You know, taking an oil painting and changing it digitally. the book is a tutorial of sorts. I guess it never really works if you try and revisit an old piece. Still, I may try and bring it up to the level of my newer work.
Thanks for the congrats Tristen...I have accepted a senior concept artist position at EA games and am very excited about it. I recently signed with Kolea Baker (who has been awesome so far) to manage my commercial stuff, I can't deal with all the contracts and such:).
P.S. are you going to the American Illustration opening?

I'll drink to that:chug:.
Kolea's got a good strong group, and your new work especially looks like it will fit in well.

No, I don't leave the house ;). I usually make it to the Society of Illustrators openings if I get pieces in, and that's pretty much it.

These pieces are beautiful, though I find them quite haunting. "Wnds of Change" really gives me the creeps for some reason.
Great work.
