Hello to everyone,

this is my first post and I am opining it up to gather mighty information! I am a caroonist/illustrator/Animator from Graz/Austria, and I just finished my "Magister" in Arts (its a mix between Bachelor and Master). I need your help to gather information about the possibilities of MFA, or any kind of Postgraduate program Illustration /Animation/Cartooning/Game Design/Concept Art - those are the main programs im interested in.

Why? Because I applied for the so called "Fulbright Scholarship (http://www.fulbright.at/)", which enables students like me to continue their education in the States. And wow: I was accepted. Now I will be partly supported. What I need to do now is to tell them 4 universitites/studying programs I am interested in and the Institute of Education will apply there for me.

I really only want to do SVA Illustration as Visual Essay. But in case I am not taken I need to tell them three other places. Maybe you can help me here: What I found so far was:

MFA Illustration at FIT
Does anybody know this program? Is it any good? Why is it so much cheaper than most others? (10 000/year)

MFA Animation and digital TV at NYU Tisch ASIA
I havent found out yet if this program exists only in Singepore or also in NY. Also, it is very expensive (40 000/year)

Academy of Art University San Francisco: MFA Illustration
I dont know anything about this.

Savanna College of Design:
Sequential Art
Does enybody know if this is any good?

Can you tell me which other fantastic Illustration/Cartooning/Concept Art whatever programs? I think I lost my ability to search effciently on the internet! I would like to study in NYC as much as possible, because I have spend some time there already. But if there are fantastic Art schools somewhere else that offers a MFA in the above told subjects, I want to know them too.

And im trufully sorry if a topic like this exists: I am in a hurry to complete my application, and tehrefor, would appriciate collected information.

Thank you very much!

PS: Sorry for any spelling mistakes!

Look into Cal Arts. It's the Harvard of animation. No other school comes close in reputation.

If I were you Cal Arts would be my number one choice. It's kind of a dream school that is very difficult to get into.

Congratulations on the Fullbright!
I really only want to do SVA Illustration as Visual Essay.
I think SVA's program is an excellent first choice, but I'm not impartial (I teach there, although not in the MFA program).
MFA Illustration at FIT

FIT is less expensive than other schools because it's a public institution, part of the State University of New York. It's a good program, especially for the price.
Academy of Art University San Francisco: MFA Illustration
I dont know anything about this.
I don't have any personal knowledge AAU's masters program, but I've heard good things, and their undergrad illustration program is strong.

Savanna[h] College of Design:
Sequential Art
Does enybody know if this is any good?

Absolutely--It's excellent. The program is a combo of sequential (comics & storyboarding) and concept art (character, environment, props, maquettes and other 3D mock-up building). This next fall they will be making a concept minor out of mostly classes from this dept. The profs are beyond amazing--they push you very hard (the workload is staggering), but remain friends. I originally went to learn something beyond illustration and got way more than I bargained for.

If you want to know more about that program, or any of the other schools, just use the search function on this forum to dig up previous discussions. Good Luck!

Thanks for the answers. Its good to know that the Savanna program is good too. And I think its amazing, that they offer an MFA in Sequential Art.

@Elwell
You teach at SVA? Very nice.
Well, if things go well we might see there next year :-)
