I just learned about this guy in my Western Art History class today and all I have to say is goddamn.
Salon Guys: "Hey man, we didn't let you in before 'cause your works is kinda controversial but you're popular now so you can come and showcase your paintings now."
Courbet: "No thanks, I think I'll just open up a gallery right next to your place, charge for admittance, and TOTALLY STEAL YOUR THUNDER."
Let's talk about artists who trolled people for a living and totally (or partially) got away with it.
